Leased to Watkins-Shepard 3500 miles a week, Balt-Sea-Chi-Lafayette IN-Sea-Chi-Sea. Need Large Car and don't play in the truckstops.

Could do 400 miles at $10/mi one week and 5000 miles at $2/mi the next. Then figure out which week was more profitable and how they were using you when they said "more miles".

Why would you take a load to a dead zone for the same rate as you can get in the freight lane? You should charge $1.5/ mile or more to go into a dead zone...just in case you need to bounce out, it will cover your bounce and you will still make a profit for your time til you hook your next load.
If you can stay in a 5 star hotel for the same rate as you can stay in a roach motel, why are you even looking at the roach motel? Had a driver, A DRIVER, tell me that I shouldn't be so greedy. I have my rate for my freight lane. Dead zone starts out at $1.5 more. Factor in things like the chain laws, and I need more. Those chains are heavy...I need to be compensated for carrying them.
Had a dispatcher tell me that I wouldn't get what I want to go to Washington State. I told her that you will not see me in Washington unless I get what I want.
Greedy?old time Thanks this. -

I did however truck in Canada pre deregulation and remember arguing with a scale master about the forklifts I was hauling. Our motor carrier license said we could haul construction equipment but didn't say we could haul machinery. The forklifts had pneumatic tires and were going to a construction site. The public servant insisted they were machinery.
What a stupid thing to argue about.
Then there was the time I wanted to haul a load from the US into Saskatchewan and wanted to buy a permit. I was told that the load had to be offered to 3 different carriers and turned done before the province would sell me a permit. Easier to just wait for the scales to close.
There's nothing quite as inefficient as the government running something. -

Home every weekend.
Not more than 2500 miles a week.
Usually around 2200.
