I am an employer in the regulated and non-regulated waste management business. I would like to understand how many firms are providing overtime pay at 44 hours vs 60 hours in various industries ie construction, waste, garbage, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Overtime hours 44 or 60?

I would hope that all the replies to this query begin with: " Well, according to the labor code in my province/state ............... "

We are obligated to pay overtime at 60 hours but currently do pay overtime at 44 hours.

Most full time or year round construction firms pay over time at 44 hours. I know the large garbage hauling companies pay OT after 40 with local pick up after 9 hours daily. It depends how you want to treat your drivers. The OTR mill companies don't pay until after 60 but they also have a revolving door, even for local pick up.

most over the road companies don't pay overtime, period, OTR, by the mile or %

I am a local hauler in the waste management sector and I get paid overtime after 8hrs/day... My overtime is not based on a week so if I don't come in one day big deal it doesn't count toward my overtimes.. Plus it would be a sick paid day anyhow.. Now I am in the Public Sector so this contributes to my lucky overtime pay and sick time... When I was in the Private Sector my overtime pay was based on 44hrs so I would need to get 44hrs as fast as I could to get the overtime pay.. Not that it was hard because I was paid daily (I was hourly and went down to the U.S on 2 day 1 night runs twice a week then 5th day was local or U.S day trips) so it wasn't hard for me to get my 44... If I got paid overtime at 60hrs/week I would not be happy thats a lot of hours for now much compensation...
