I am new to expediting & have just been offered a driving position(A cargo van). I was told that the pay is 60/40 with me getting the 60 but I have to pay for gas. Is that a good thing? I leave this Friday, so before I get started is there any particular questions I need to ask or know?

Just from information you provided I would say no it's not a good thing. You did not included all the details about the position and what the company provides, and what all you have to provide. Who's vehicle? Insurance? Plates? Maintenance? There is a LOT of information missing for anybody to really give you any advice.

what Skooter said. Plus how much will that 60% come out to? The fact that you are paying for fuel is a huge red flag for me. You need to talk to him more and find out exactly you'll make in a week and for how many miles. Keep in mind a Ford cargo van only gets around 14-15 mpg highway empty. It costs between $80-$100 to fill one up. You need to crunch some numbers.

BTW Are you driving locally or OTR? If over the road where will you sleep if the van is loaded? Are you expected to pay for hotels too?

    Same as what skootertrash5 says.
Too many unknowns to simply ask "Is this a good deal?"
Even with the 60/40 split, are they just going to pay you $X amount and "say" that's 60% of the job?
