So just finished my road test and pre trip yesterday...I was sent over to their Dr for a DOT and I'm thinking no problem...well I find out that Walmart has a requirement that if you meet certain qualifiers that you can't be given your Cert? They require at least a 1 year Cert and if you meet their sleep apnea qualifiers you can only be given a 30 day card....
havent heard art much from them since yesterday but I'm wondering
#1 am I disqualified now?
#2 can a company's requirements actually supersede the fmcsa if you meet all their qualifications?
Was super excited thinking I got in but don't know what to think now...any insight anyone?

A company can have own standards.

I get the standards part...but can a dot examiner fail you because you don't meet a company's standard? My neck was like 18 inches or something...I'm 5"11 and was 251lbs....my neck size is disqualifying me...really

Sleep apnea for a 30 day card to see how you do I guess, maybe if you can stay awake for that long they will give you a longer term. Cheers

Never have....this was going to be a FMCSA requirement I believe starting next year but when the proposed rule change was posted it had so many comments on it that they backed off...walmart along with a couple other fleets implemented this policy to get ahead of the curve so to speak...if it's an actual issue that I may have fine, but it's not an accurate assessment of apnea and I shouldn't be disqualified from a DOT because I didn't meet "Walmarts" standard...the more I think about it the more it bugs me

The problem is piro walmart won't hire you until you qualify for a min 1 year DOT..they will only give me a 30 day because of Walmarts "screening"

I understand the DOT thing but sleep apnea is when someone forgets to breathe while sleeping. The apnea can last as long as 10 seconds before the apneatite starts to breathe. Maybe Walmart has a different meaning of apnea. All the best of luck.Cheers
