Definition of OVER THE ROAD DRIVER?

    These are all AWESOME answers, I think my former company that I didn't apply to but was questioning his motives, Is lost and trying to give his equipment a good run, He thinks if he keeps guys out for these lengths of time that the truck gets paid for! I wish him well, Sorry, I'm not going out for 8 weeks at a time.

    Over the road means that is where you will spend most of your time, Over the road, not over your couch, or over with your family. It is a shame that drivers feel they have to take a job with excessive time away from home. What's excessive? That's up to the individual. But 6 months? I do not think any marriage would survive that, unless you have no kids, and your wife enjoys riding with you.
    And I know too many drivers divorced due to being away too much. Your family is always more important than your job. If I have to choose between the two, it's a no-brainer for me.

    I never have understood how anyone,could work for someone they don't know, or have never met.me personally I have shook hands with everyone I've ever worked for.guy I'm leased to now his word is good as gold.have had offers to move to other co. 5 mile down the road.for more money.but after many years at this game if you don't know where the buck stops.you can go round & round.one call to owner and the bs stops.have called him twice in three years.

    I Hear you here!, I have a Wife is is maintaining her career and also 4 Children all under 10 Years old! I would not survive this 6 month thing!

    I agree with the Handshake and the word is a contract, These guys are just trying to pay that new truck off and have a little left when it is paid for, this guy tells me this is what he did and he expects the same thing from his drivers, But the drivers are not working to Own his own company, this guy is lost, he will never find anyone that will work for what he is owning rather then what they are owning? I hope this makes sense. Good Luck.

    Awesome post, and could not agree more about knowing where the buck stops. I love the fact that you have only had to call twice in three years....that to me tells it all. You have a great job, company and bossman. They in return have a great employee. So simple you would think everyone would do it, but doesn't seem to be the norm for the industry.

    Well I'm a o/o leased on took many years to get here,4 o/o,30 co.truck.if dispatch can't find load,can book load myself. Never advertise who I'm leased to. Folks around here know who it is.if you can't work on you're own no need to apply here.

    Well I'm classified with my company as northeast regional, I live in PA. Yesterday I was in KS and today I'm headed to LA. For us regional just means home every other weekend.
