I have looked through the forums for the last month and thank you all for the information that everyone has given here. I really liked GoBlue's thread about the training with Techno and OSU. I have searched though and came up with some questions I haven't seen answered yet that aren't training related exactly, just about things that go along with it. Forgive me if I missed them.
Questions about the motel:
-Is the wifi decent? I would like to be able to skype and I didn't know if it was strong enough for that.
-What size are the fridges in the rooms? Are they small cube like, or apartment size?
-Does the motel have a gym for working out? I know it has a pool.
Next is about after the CDL class/orientation when with driver trainer:
-I am assuming that I will eat like the trainer eats and will not have room to bring my own food with me (I know we have to sleep in the bunk with what we bring with us.). Is this right?
-I am wondering what size the bunk is so I can get sheets. Is the bunk the same size as the lower bed?
So far that's the questions I have. I'm sure I will have more. I like to be prepared.
Thanks!

If your going to Marshfield I can't help with hotel questions as I was in Appleton for orientation. When your out on the road with the trainer I suggest buying snack food to munch on during waits. Most of the time you will be stopped at truck stops so you can get meals there. If you know your running low on hours and may have to shutdown at a customer let the trainer know so you can stop and grab some to go food.
PICK highly suggest a sleeping bag for your training. Till you get assigned a truck. Less to carry (sheets blankets) pack light as the bunks are not normally spacious for two. Once you get a truck you will have plenty of space.TallyHo Thanks this. -
Yep, with any company, take an oversized sleeping bag and one pillow vs. sheets & blanket.

I too went to Appleton, so I don't know about Marshfield. I'm sure the wife will be strong enough if it's available. You can always login at the terminal. Just be careful. They see everything and it goes back to your wife login. Take only a sleeping bag and cover and small pillow. Keep in mind that what you take you might have to bring back with you on a bus if you fail. So pack lite.
Projektf350 and TallyHo Thank this. -
The wifi in Marshfield was terrible. Most of the time couldn't get a signal. They do have small fridges. I don't remember if there was a gym in there. I'm thinking no. I went for runs outside all the time.
TallyHo Thanks this. -
Sorry I didn't specify, yes I will be at Marshfield for my training.
Thanks for the responses. -
Yeah, the wifi at the hotel in Marshfield was hit-and-miss. Reasonable enough for forums like this site but not usually fast enough for Skype.
While attending RDTC, you won't have access to the terminal wifi network yet (you get that once you are hired on). The hotel wifi is all you'll have, unless you bring something like a mobile cellular wifi hotspot.
The fridges are somewhat taller than cube-size; they're the next size above that.
Definitely just take a sleeping bag and pillow for being out with your trainer rather than sheets and a blanket. As for bringing along food, ask your trainer beforehand what he/she has room for. Mine was fine with me bringing a few yogurts and prepackaged sandwiches to put in his cooler.TallyHo Thanks this. -
1. when i was there the wifi sucked. it worked but sucked. they have a new bar attached to the hotel, maybe its better now.
2. a little bigger than the little cubes, about waist height. worked perfect for me. there are grocery stores nearby so you don't have to have a house fridge, just go to the store every few days if you need something.
3. I don't remember a workout area, but then I wasn't looking. I was pretty busy at RDTC so not much interested in working out every day for those weeks. Marshfield is a nice place to go for a walk or run if you want. For us it would have been a ski, sled or skating trip lol.
The other answers...
1. When I went out with my trainer, 9 days. I used my sign on bonus which is offered to you at a rate of $25 daily for 10 days. You could get your $25 with an EFS check or via an efs/atm. I would write a check to myself and then when we fueled cash two or three of them. I just ate out when I could, had some snacks and soda with me. I focused on the driving part, didn't want to mess with learning the fine are of eating on the road. that comes with time and on your own.
2. Sheets. Twin XL for sheets. I think i got mine at target. Sometimes the upper bunk is not as wide as the lower bunk but they will work. I just put on the mattress cover and then used my sleeping bag. Still using those sheets and sleeping bag in my truck. -
If your lucky you goblue will be a trainer by the time your ready. He is a great sheep and spends plenty of time at truck stops watching tv. So you will have plenty of time to get food
Bayle Thanks this. -
I dont know seems a bit funny your first concerns are the wifi and size of the fridge. They r going to keep you busy for that week of ground school. You will have plenty to occupy yourself take some extra time on downsifting map reading logbooks and trip planning so u can hit the ground running once you get ur trainer because it is thse thing that in my experience most new guys r the weakest on and that chew up the most time once on the road. Remember even tho your trainer is there to train you his money is still being made by delivering the load on time
