Hows it going guys. I have a question for you if i could. I have spoken to many different people regarding what companies I should be looking at..and very frequently WS comes up as a great company to start with...My question is probably going to seem a little funny but I was wondering why.. In researching the company I have not found much of anything in particular that really stands out about WS.. And since I so rarely encounter WS drivers near where I live I thought I would ask you guys.. What is it you like about the company??? Also I was wondering about your freight lanes and getting home easily.. I live in Southern California off the I15 between Riverside and San Diego.. As I said I rarely see your trucks so I am curious how difficult it is to get home time around here? Thank you in advance.

1) There is a fairly major terminal based out of Santa Fe Springs. Getting you home shouldn't be much of an issue.
2) the unique thing about Watkins and Shepard is the 10 day orientation. After that, you get the keys to your truck, and shortky thereafter you get a load and start pulling freight. If you're not quite confident in your abilities after the 10 days, you do have the option of going out with a driver trainer for a week or so to further hone your skills.
3) even being out on the road, its relatively rare to encounter another company driver unless you're at a terminal. Its just not that big of a company, which has its advantages.
I think you can look up the terminal contact info on the website, from there you can contact the terminal manager and schedule a quick tour and chat up a few of the OTR drivers while you're there.horsecrazychic22 Thanks this. -
I am out of Santa Fe springs, ad I haven't had a problem getting home so far. There are a lot of drivers who stay out west and get home every couple of weeks.

You have to be within about a 100 miles from a terminal to be hired. If you are out of Phoenix, then your truck will go home with you.
-
I see, so no visiting Ma & Pa in another city, have to return to your home terminal.
-
No, you have to return to a terminal. If you can get someone to pick you up, you can take time off at any terminal. The exception is Phoenix, which doesn't have the yard space to handle...anything.

My wife and I are on the docket for orientation in Feb... can anyone fill me in on what we should expect.... I know the 10 day training is intense and we are up for it. Our question is how touchy are they... if you bump a curb are you sent home
? -
The goal of training is to help you not bump the curb. If you bump one then we work with you to not bump another one. We have committed to you coming on so a good attitude goes a very long way.

Will Watkins & Shepard hire me out of the Bristol, TN area? It's 114 miles from the closest terminal (Conover, NC).
