Well, I was trying to be good since I thought "The Crusty One" might be in a really Cranky and Crabby mood.

The King is also in a crabby mood ....had to wait 7 hours to get loaded, so it will be tomorrow before he gets home.
Honeybadger is home for the weekend enjoying her family. I believe jaso36 said he was trying to get home by tomorrow or Monday. Kirk seems to be keeping busy and only checks in occasionally ....and we are going to have to send out a search team for passport! Soooo ....much as I enjoy the conversations I have with myself in private .....I was afraid I might be taken away by the Twinkie Mobile if I started talking to myself in a public forum!:biggrin_25517::biggrin_2559:

Cranky what do you think of the MIFI? I have read reviews but they say it is limited in service(as for in what areas) but that when you do get it, it is really good.

Here is a little observation I have made in my short time out here recently
Sitting in Warrenton, Missouri. I like and dislike these new e-logs. I like that I finally get the mandated by law breaks. What I don't like is that I see a bunch of new drivers that with out the e-logs(electronic) and GPS they can't read a map or know the laws that are for our industry. I know it seems I am old fashioned but if you can't read a map you should not be driving an 18 wheeler around this country. What happens if you GPS goes out for some reason and you are in the middle of a desolate part of the state? Your screwed also these e-logs aren't 100% right as I talked to my safety department on Thursday and they said I was in violation but after we pulled out the books I was right. I have many many inspections of my paperlogs and no violations cause I know what looks right on paper but that is another story. The good thing about e-logs is that it is really hard to be in violation of the laws as long as you pay attention and know what to look at. The GPS is a very nice tool but not to be completely trusted as stuff changes and if they are not updated plus they do miss a few roads with restrictions( The map to but not as much). Anyway these are my thoughts this morning now on to the drivers lounge and a hopefully a great NFL day of football. The only reason I bring this up is there is a whole new generation coming out that has no idea where they are or how they got there. I know I have gumption to some of you since I have only had my CDL since 2002 but we had to read maps and know where we were in case we broke down or tried to help for someone broken down. There are "drivers" coming out that don't even know the numbers go down when heading South or West. Wow. To me this seems dangerous to them cause they might be put into a situation where they really need help and who listens to the "Radio" any more? Most of these guys don't even have a cheap one. Well I will be alright with doing away with all these advancments and going back to the old ways I even have been trying to learn the old "Radio" codes. As always be safe drivers

Good morning everyone~ I think TransAm used to have a test on mapping skills during orientation several years ago ....didn't they, Panhandle? Husband's coach had his own GPS but refused to allow Husband to use it during training. I think you are absolutely correct, jaso, and it is an essential skill that many of the newer drivers lack because of the technology. The good thing is that because you realize this problem when you start training you will be able to fill in this gap for your students ....too bad that isn't the case with all of the trainers.

Joey, we haven't heard from you in a few days either ....llsnemesis, how are you? EMCHIEF? Oliver2? Hope everyone is doing well.
Pete, I'm sending good thoughts your way as you transition from one location to another and from one job to another.

we had a mapping quiz when I did orientation
I love my gps but don't rely on it
I like the RM telling me about speed changes and weigh stations
and elogs make things easier especially split logging
I found I used it often to eliminate the 30 minute break

I know a few trainers on the first few runs with a newbie will turn off the gps and have the new guy go by map only. Too bad it is only a handful of trainers that are doing this.
