I understand being a company driver you're on the companies insurance. As far as load securement and the driver being responsible for it does the driver need to carry personal liability to cover if something happens and you lose a load or part of it?

    thanks!!

This won't directly answer your question but I think personal liability coverage is a good idea. Take a look at your car insurance coverage for liability for example. What they cover is a drop in the bucket if you were sued over an accident.

I have a policy covering myself for a few million dollars and it wasn't very expensive.

i did a search and couldn't find anything here or anywhere for that matter. i wasn't sure how it worked being a company driver if it covered everything but i guess they could come after you personally

Most companies have insurance already for cargo that you don't have to pay for but if you lose the load they may charge you the deductible which could be around 10,000. I'd ask your company if they have cargo insurance and how it works etc. But if ya secure it good then you won't have to worry about it!

i was thinking more along the lines of something happening where the May be damage to a person or vehicle. Could that person come after you personally?

Your company would take care of that with their insurance. Then again they may charge u the deductible or they may not. If the person you did damage to comes after u in court there'd really be nothing you can do about it other than hope the judge rules in your favor.

Ask your employer and also read the papers you sign when you hire on. But I don't think you need it. There are federal regulations against an employer being able to back-charge and employee for anything.

Unless you happen to be a Kennedy or Rockefeller I doubt you have anything to worry about. Your company has an insurance provider that has pockets worth picking, yours likely aren't worth the cost of attempting to pick.
