I'm currently in driving school and will be done and ready to join a company in December. I have been shopping around looking at different companies and just wanted some insight from y'all on good companies to start out with. I'm sure y'all see posts like this all the time, but I tried looking at recent posts but didnt see too much. A little about me - I'm 24 and live in southeast Tennessee. I dont mind where the company is located nor do I mind about how long they keep me out as long as the pay is descent. I'd actually prefer it as I dont have a wife/kids or much responsibiliy to be back for constantly. I would like to cover the country as much as i can and be out and making money as much as theyll allow. I'm new to this and still learning, so I dont want to get sucked into a company and get taken advantage of since im new (which ive heard will most likely happen). I'm still in the beginning of my class, but I want to start getting apps in as soon as i can. Any information on an company would be much apprectiated!

Ive got a passport and I have started studying for hazmat and triples and doubles, hopefully I will get those endorsements before I graduate. I looked into conway a little. Ive seen some mixed reviews but need to do a little more research.

Depends upon what you want to do meaning freight type hauled. Flatbed favorite is Melton Trucklines, OTR Dry Van Favorites are CRST for obvious reasons.

Once you get the license in hand you've crossed the first hurdle, finding a good company is easier said than done.

You may have to go through two or three companies to find your best fit. Only you can figure that out.

Apply with all companies you like & ignore "experience required" on the advertisements & apply anyway.

    LandAir
    Melton Truck Lines
    Superior-Carriers
    Ozark Motor Lines
    R.E. West
    Navajo
    K&B Transportation
    Dynamic Transit

I havent read too much into CRST. I know that pay isnt too good for new drivers, but do they pay descently well? I live in chattanooga, so I'm really close to Covenant and US Express, but from some of the things i've heard, I would def like to explore different avenues before making a decision.

Prime has a tanker terminal in Chattanooga.
Watkins & Shepard has a terminal in Calhoun, GA.
K&B mentioned in other post has some deal about guaranteed salary jobs of $950.00 a week as long as you don't turn down a load.

We live pretty close to each other. I live in Blue Ridge Ga which IAS about an hour or so away from Chattanooga. I am a 33 year old. I have a wife and 2 pre-teen kids. I drive for Maverick Transportation out of little rock. I just can't say enough good things about this company. They are mainly a flatbed company and they will train you up. You don't need to know anything about securing or harping because they train you. Their training is amazing by the way. Hands on and classroom. You will learn how to secure everything from coils to lumber.

I believe you get 450 the week of orientation. After that you get 500 a week training. This is securement training and time with a trainer on a truck if needed. From then on...you are rolling brother. They start you at .33 CPM I think but after 6 month you go up to .42. Also have to add on the performance bonus which is an additional 6 CPM (and its a easy goal to hit). You are talking about 50cpm or close to it at the 6 month mark. They also have nearly a thousand dollar sign on bonus.

I've been with them 5 months and I pull a flatbed. I can honestly say that I have never been lied to by anyone from maverick including my recruiter and dispatcher. I can honestly say that I have never brought home a check that was below 800 dollars net after insurance and everything. I can honestly say that this company takes care of their drivers and equipment. Most drivers get home every weekend. Personally I'm in long haul so I get home every other weekend but sometimes I'm close enough to take my 34 reset at home anyway. They have yet to miss geting me home. Within 15 minutes of sending in my empty macro, I have my next assignment.

This is all ######## free too. I am a driver for maverick, not a recruiter or anything. I wish I had known about this company sooner.

Feel free to call and ask for Jeff Bone. He was my recruiter and you can take what he says for truth because even though it may sound too good to be true, I've never been lied to. Give them my name if you don't mind because I get a little referral bonus as well. My name is Chris Yohn. Truck number 11093. If you have any questions, email me at cyay918@gmail.com. I only check this site once every few days so email is the best way to reach me. Best of luck to you man and maybe I'll see you in a maroon cascadia soon!
