    Hello

I am looking to swap my D12D US ECM for an EU one as the EU one does not have EGR. I have looked at the US D12C but the unit would require a different harness as the plugs on D12D have more pins. Does anyone here have any advice or knowledge about this? I have a 2005 US and the EU one I am looking at is 2004.
Would I need to swap injectors also?
The other option would be to simply plug the pipe but probably would be better if the computer didnt know about the EGR at all. My concern with the plug option is that the computer thinks that there are exhaust gases in the combustion chamber when there are none. Is that a legitimate concern?

First thing that would come to my mind does the EU ecu work with 12 or 24v

    drover2000 Thanks this.

Good point! EU uses a 24v system whereas US is 12v. I tried to Google to find more info but nothing specific other than the fact that Detroit have a dual (12/24v) voltage ECU since the 1990's so its possible Volvo works the same way.

24 volt but I'm sure a transformer of some sort could be used, the guy you need to ask is Pablo-ua, he's a mechanic and works with both euro and us trucks and is very knowledgeable with electronics and Volvo engines and fuel systems

    drover2000 Thanks this.

Thanks. I've been driving a loaner 03 D12C for the last couple of weeks and the difference in MPG is significant particularly when pulling heavy or when windy. The EGR engine seems to lose efficiency when its made to work. Its pretty good with a light load and a tailwind. As far as I can tell the EGR is the only difference really between the 2. It looks like it the D12D had EGR only for US market so the development was probably limited to meeting the EPA regs at the expense of efficiency.

What u need to understand is that if u run 24v to ecu u have to run 24 to whole truck plus also chek the sensor voltages and values that go in or come out u have to ask pablo hell be able to tell u if its doable or not
