Has anyone ever unlock an iPhone 4

seems like from what everyone has been doing. al you gotta do is swap sim cards for whatever carrier. unless carriers have gotten stricter in that aspect lately. as for unlocking. it's called JAILBREAK. do a google for jailbreaking your ios. thousands have and are doing it.

 

Strait talk works by replacing your sim. On an iphone that's integrated. You would have to rip apart the phone to replace it, and even then IDK if you can. its not like an old phone wear the sim is under the batt

 

Jail breaking lets you do awesome stuff to your phone, but not necessarily switch carriers, thats controlled by the sim which i dont know if you can switch on an iphone

 

If it's an att iPhone the SIM should be easy enough to access but it's a micro SIM as I recall which is what my galaxy S3 uses. Easy enough to mod a regular size SIM card.

You can switch any gsm phone as long as it's unlocked from the carrier. That's the inherent beauty of the gsm network.

The only issue is you'll have to manually enter the data access info for your new carrier.

At times, you may need to change the SIM card of your device. For example, this is required for iPhone repair, warranty service, or if you own an authorized unlocked device and want to use a different network provider's SIM or use the unlocked device on the AT&T network.

When changing the SIM card, power off the device prior to opening the SIM tray. After you have changed the SIM card for your iPhone you may need to reconnect it to iTunes.
iPhone keeps a record of previously inserted SIM cards, but if the carrier name of your SIM does not show up in the status bar after you changed the SIM you will need to reconnect iPhone to iTunes. If you do not connect iPhone to iTunes after changing or reinserting the SIM, iPhone may not work as expected.

 

Keep in mind that some of the non network carriers have modified their SIM cards so they won't work with just any phone. I know net 10 does that. Unsure about straight talk. Straight talk gsm network phones SIM cards run off of T-Mobile's network as I recall. The cdma network phones use Verizon. It all depends on what model it is.

 

This whole deal with locked and unlocked phones is a crock of nonsense but we let these carriers get away with it. In my home country, aka the UK it's illegal to sell a locked phone. All phones are unlocked and you just switch the SIM card. You pick the carrier you want. That's the way it should be but we have to put up with this BS. What happened to the free market.
