I've been studying up so that I can get my cdl class b license and I'm just about ready to go to the DMV to take my written test, but I heard that you can actually get a hazmat endorsement on your class b license so that you can get a better paying job when you're ready to start looking. Are there that many hazmat jobs if you only have a class b cdl with a hazmat endorsement? Thanks.

I can only comment on my area---Yes! Many Class B Trucks from those that deliver CO2 to fast food restaurants, pickup used motor oil from quickee lubes, and deliver diesel to the drilling rigs require the drivers to have a HME.

Get a Class A !! So close to same it's rediculous. Good Luck.

There are many Class B Hazmat jobs, but it all depends where you are located at.
A place like Chicago would be completely different than noname, Wyoming.
You need to put your location in your profile when asking this type of question.
Why not go for a CDL Class A? Be honest.
Class B drivers are a dime a dozen, and typically paid less. All Class A drivers can drive B straight trucks too.GITRDUN45 Thanks this. -
I live in Iowa. As far as getting a class a, I don't have 3 or 4 thousand dollars lying around to go take the training to get a class a cdl, that is why I'm only going after my class b. The only investment I'll be putting in is about $250 for a one day training session on how to manuveur a truck so that I can pass the driving test, and with my hazmat endorsement I'll be able to get at least a better paying job than without it.

I appreciate you being open and straight forward about it.
I won't push you to getting a Class A, if a Class B is your choice. There are, tho, often many ways to get Class A training cheaper, or free.
As for a job with a Class B, I would check with local delivery businesses in your area, local LTL's (Less Than truckLoad) as getting on as a local P&D (pickup/delivery) driver, and also check local Craigslist listings. In that order. I do wish you well, and hope you get a higher paying job. -
do you mean chicago doesnt have class b jobs?

http://www.iowacentral.edu/transportation/index.asp I would check with this school they even offer financial aid.

I went the route with trying to get aid with the Pell grant but they only offer their grant for college accredited courses, not for cdl training. I don't want to get a loan for a cdl training course that we'd have to pay back because we're already in debt up to our ears, but thanks for trying to help.
