Hello folks. 23 yr flatbedder here. Driving for a small Kansas company for the last 10 of that. I'm trying to get my boss to understand that if they cut our governed speed back from 72 mph to 68 mph and we are running electric logs so we can't make up the miles except by driving longer to make the same miles it is a pay cut. How can I explain it any simpler. If they will not give us more per mile it is a cut right? Or am I crazy?
Is it a pay cut

So your going to lose 4 miles an hour, on average. Yup, that's a pay cut, unless they make it up with a increase in per mile pay.
Not sure what the effect will be from the E-Log, though. I use one, but I'm local.
Have you asked why they are cutting the speed back? Is it because of fuel cost savings? Insurance savings?
These were both the reasons given to us when my employer did the same thing. If so, maybe its time to ask for a raise? -
I drive OTR and pretty much use my 70 hrs every week. So about the only way to gain driving time is lying about my on duty time even more than I do. Some of that is pretty thin right now if you know what I mean. So the way I look at it I either lose miles and thus money or I lose more off duty time to make the same miles. Which means I'm working longer for the same money. Thus a pay cut. I just want to make sure I'm not crazy. Thanks for the reply. By the way they cited those 2 reasons plus efficiency an safety. No raise offered

Oh, sorry missed the crazy part. Thought that was a given to drive truck.
Yup, your taking a pay cut.
May be time to start looking for a new employer.
If no raise is forthcoming. -
Yeah I'm thinking the same. Been a good company. But this is just wrong. My company also has a manufacturing division. They know they couldn't go to them and say well to keep insurance and other costs down we are gonna cut all of you a dollar an hour or you can choose to work 2 hrs per week for free to keep the same money. I'm gonna try and explain this to my boss but it won't change his mind I'm sure. If they tried it in the plants probably about half would walk out. Unfortunately truckers at least at my company can't stick together.
