some jobs require hazmat some do not, it would give you more possible avenues if you had it.

If you dont have experience with tankers, most companies will put you on water, which does not require hazmat. Although some people say that water pays the same as oil, it doesnt. Water typically pays by the hour, whereas oil pays by the barrel. If you have your hazmat, once you get a couple months under your belt (especially if your starting now as winter is approaching), you can get an oil job very quickly. Having your hazmat is going to come in very handy when you need it there and then, and remember that after you pass your written, you will still have 4-6 weeks worth of wait time for the hazprints.com thing to go through. Also, I dont know how long ago you have taken your cdl test, but if it was more than 1 year ago (in a lot of states), you will have to take ALL your tests over again. chop chop!

They don't require you to. When I was working up there earlier this year [not as a truck driver] my roommate worked at powerfuels as a water truck driver and he had a nebraska cdl license and hazmatslim1 Thanks this.
