What cell telephone(s) do professional drivers use these days? I will be wandering around the U.S. for a bit, and would like dependable connections. I just thought you folks might have some solid ideas. Thanks.
Best Cell telephone plan?

When I was OTR I used verizon. I got tired of them and went to cingular. I like cingular better, but I only travel a few states now. I have no problems with cingular, but no longer run about 30 states. Not sure how the coverage is with them. The few states that I go to I have no problems with them.

I used Cingular when I was OTR, still use it here from home (only have cell phones, no land line)
Works great for me. Having a good antenna helps though, for any service. I had an antenna mounted on my truck just for the cell phone and I was never in a location where I couldn't get pretty good service. -
On my cell phone I got mine thru Interstate Connections at the Ta in jessup,md four years ago..I just got a deal from them in fl after my contract was renewed. i now have a 90.00 month deal ,unlimited minutes,camera pics,email,internet,I believe if i pay 10.00 more a month I would have GPS on my phone too.It is only sold to cdl holders thru Ta and petro truck stops or on the internet,check out their web site.Sprint just told me last week that it costs 199.00 at sprint dealers,but,just this weekend in USA today paper they have a super deal,Gps and everything I have for 99.00,you might want to check that out. Interstate connections says in their website that they are the number one site for cell phones sold to truckers,they have other than sprint contracts also.They are well worth checking into,I talk and talk and talk and never afraid of a giant phone bill again.

We have used Cingular for years . The only big problem we have is out west in no mans land . I can deal with that .
Cingular A+++++ -
Old post,
Anyways Cingular is no more correct? its now ATT right?
I have been using Sprint for years and have no real issues far as connection goes.. billing on the on other hand is totally another issue..
Verizon has bumped up thier tower numbers and now has the best plan of them all.. $99 for unlimited everything.. calling, text and web (web on the phone).
Most people i talk to have Verizon and they pretty much get the same connection as I do.. -

Thought I would chime in. Sprint, I believe, started the 'unlimited' plans by doing a test in a few markets. Within a month (while Sprint was still testing in a couple of markets) both Verizon and ATT have begun offering unlimited plans starting at 99 (+ some costs for data depending on what you want). I think they are both 150ish if you want absolutely every option.
I've been using ATT for a bit and get pretty good signal so far, though I am shopping with both ATT and Verizon to pick the right phone since everyone I've seen post/spoken to puts them neck and neck on coverage and customer service.
/cheer for threads ressurected from the dead (;
