how do companies typically fire drivers?I would think that if they sent over the Qualcomm, or called to fire a driver, there might be problems...
would they try to get you to a terminal and fire you then?
i... *ahem* had a minor incident backing at a truck stop last night, and now they are saying that they want me to go to a terminal for backing training... am I going there to be fired?

I've got 10 months with the company... no tickets, no incidents/accidents before this one...

ugh this SUCKS I was planning to leave to go local agree my year contract is up, and two months before the finish line, and this happens...

Depends on too much Skull....... How much damage, did you follow procedure, circumstances, mom and pop carrier or mega and so on. You said they told you to come home and be retrained so go with it. I don't see much of a choice.

Get home and see how they treat you. Try to get in after office hours and remove personal effects from truck just in case and then report as normal. Could be as simple as retraining. You'll know shortly.

Let us know and good luck.

They probably want you to cme back for more training. If you've done a relatively good job, they aren't going to fire you. An accident like that is an accident. It's not like you careened down the highway on your cell phone with the tranny in Georgia overdrive. Calm down. You'll be ok. :)

It really could be additional training. I have seen a company do that with drivers with less than a year experience. Not just for you, but it's a feel good thing for the company whether it's actually useful or not.

They will have a documented case of where they attempted to improve their safety status by being proactive, perhaps helping out with their insurance.

And who knows, it just might be something that sticks with you the remainder of your career, remembering having to go back to backing school every time you put it in reverse, causing you to take that extra bit of care.

I backed into a bush at a rest stop in VA.. just put the bush back up, but the lady who watches the place at night though the world was ending.... police got called and he had to write up a report on a leaning bush. He could not stop laughing... I got to spend 2 hours at the yard backing into spots.

Told safety... either I parked in the rest area cause I was tired or your truck may be in the ditch. Two lane road in VA with nice deep ditches on either side. Safety agreed with me..pull over.

What a tool. We all know the type. Give them a uniform and a flash light and they live their lives in anticipation of an event, no matter how inconsequential, that they can be involved in.

A few months ago I took my dogs with me to the terminal to run around while I was doing something with my truck. They got under the fence and were sniffing around the building of a factory across the road.

When I went over there to retrieve them I was greeted by a Barney Fife type in a wrinkled uniform with a patch on the sleeve.

He asks me: "These your dogs?"

    Me: "Uh, yeah."

Him: "I've been watching them on the security camera from inside. Good thing you showed up or I was going to have to call somebody."

I really had no meaningful response as the dogs jumped in the car and I drove away.
