Pulling nearly double your usual gross weight will do that. And they aren't limited to 55mph like oversize loads either. For what its worth, in NY/MA they are usually 45' or 48' trailers. I don't believe that double 53's are permitted as in Canada.

I was told that the legal weight is 127,000 for the combination of tractor and two trailers 48', but the ohio is the only state to physically weights trucks. I'm still not sure as of why not so many companies doing this.

Am I reading you right?? You say "ohio is the only state to physically weights trucks".
That's news to all the state weigh stations in the 49 other states!

They all physically weigh trucks, even doubles.

I was talking going from illinois to mass, you could use only turnpike to get there pulling long combination vehicles. I was told that just ohio turnpike do weight trucks when you use it.

I think he means on the turnpike. Ohio used to charge their tolls based on weight, not axles. That's why when you approached the toll plazas you didn't hit the brakes too hard as if you were close to 80k, hitting the brakes on the scales could bounce you up to the overweight class.

While the Ohio turnpike tolls are based on axles now, they still weigh you as you go onto the turnpike.

    alds and crb Thank this.
