My advice to you is to become a sponge... absorb everything. Schooling is much different than the real deal. Ive been out here 8 years and I learn something everyday. Keep a positive attitude. Remember that hes only going to train you for a short period of time so ask everything you can think of.

I've been with Melton for about 6 months now. Most of the loads are tarped so the better you get at that the easier things will be for you. Make sure you interview your trainer. You do not have to accept the first one they offer you. Ask for one with experience not just in flatbed but also as a trainer. Also, ask for one that drives a Cascadia. The 660's are too small to double up in.

Bring as little as possible, and check with your trainer so you don't bring doubles. Clothes, bedding, bathroom supplies, and of course PPE's. The rest make sure you limit as much as possible. Don't show up with 5 suitcases. Do bring ear plugs though. You'll need your sleep. Also an alarm clock if your trainer doesn't have one. There is one on the qualcom, but it's sometimes unreliable.

I trained with swift. My trainer was more concerned about getting loads than training me. The fact that he got paid for my miles may have influenced that. Melton pays a flat weekly fee, so things may be different. In any case prepare a list of questions, and do pick your trainer's brain. What you get out of it depends largely on you. Not having to team is a benefit. Make sure you learn trip planning. Never just trust the qualcom nav. Let us know how it goes.
