    Hey Y"all!

Driving a truck is something I've wanted to do since I was 19.....but allowed my family to talk me out of it. So here I am 26 years later...working in a factory and hating it. Then the lightbulb came on...kids are grown...house is empty...time to pursue my dream!

I'm studying for my CDL permit and researching night after night to find the best company that will train me. I've been reading through the forum boards and gleaned a LOT of information which will help me make what will hopefully be the best company for me.

Look forward to chatting with y'all.

Go for it! Do your research there are plenty of companies that will train you. If you can pay a tuition thats better. If the company trains you, you,re kind of a slave for a year

    Thanks Bikerdave.

Yeah...I've kinda seen where I will have to endure the ball and chain for my first year...but paying for school myself is out of the question :( I lasted as a manager in fast food for 15 years.....so 1 year with my starter company should be a breeze. LOL

Since you must have company sponsored training, consider Prime flatbed or CRST flatbed. Study the websites and see which fits your needs the best.

Thanks.....Prime is actually my top choice right now.....I still have several more companies yet to review. I haven't checked CRST yet.

I was going to go either with Prime or FFE when I was considering company sponsored training. Prime was paying the most for for trainees, but they also had the longest training program ( ie Team slave lol)

While the training time is important...I am also looking at the benefits such as rider and pet policies. I have a 15 year old son that is looking forward to being able to go on the road with me. And while my little sheltie thinks he's a pit bull.....I figure the sound of a dog barking when a lot lizard approaches my door should take care of the situation for me. My pit would be more protection...but I doubt most companies would allow a 60 pound "aggressive" breed.

Melton Truck Lines has rider and pet policy. Get qualified for flatbed with Prime or CRST, whichever has the shortest training period, then move over to Melton.
