The last two days have been interesting, surreal in fact.............. I am a newly minted "newbie", (last month I got my freshly minted CDL-Class A with Hazmat, Tankers, and Doubles/Triples Endorsements, and a TWIC.) I applied to about 20-25 companies on line in the Midland area, and I went to a Job Fair in Midland in early October........... and I did not get a single bite, not even a nibble.
Then, yesterday, I got a solid offer from one of the big outfits in the Midland area; and today I got an offer from another outfit! Both have excellent benefits and a salary potential of 60-75K yearly - first year. One has a man camp. Did I mention that I am a "newbie" with no experience? I am ecstatic! Both wanted to know...."how soon can you report for training?" Soon... real soon. October 29............. to be exact.
How did this happen? Well I applied on line. I got the name/number/or email of contacts of the Recruiters. Then I followed up every two weeks. I think that I was nixed for the first jobs that I applied for, but because I kept calling, emailing, and digging, they took me seriously, and found a slot for me.
So I am rapidly packing up and getting ready to report in late October. Or sooner.
I was not lucky, I worked hard. Look, the internet is a tool, as are the job fairs, and so is following up via phone. Use whatever tool's you have as a newbie - use them. Don't quit, don't give up. Also, knocking on doors in person does not hurt.
I went from "this might not happen" to "I am going to make this happen" and it panned out. That is my story.
Also, whichever of the two offers I take - they will get a safe, motivated, and loyal CDL Driver with an attitude. A " am I am here to work hard attitude." The only thing that I know for sure is that I don't know it all.............. so I am here to learn. This is a win-win for the employer and me.
I'll keep you all posted on how it goes. And, no, I will not name the employer(s). I don't want to jinx it. But, who are the two big outfits that will hire a newbie? So, you already know who, don't you. They are hiring newbies, but you have to work for the shot.
Best of luck to you all - forget luck, work for it.......... and it might happen.

31N90W, are you originally from Texas with a Texas address? Also, how was the Hazmat endorsement process and how long did it take?
-
I am not from TX.......... I am from 31N30W. I will have to get my CDL reissued in TX, and I will have to redo the Hazmat in TX. I do not have a TX address, but I will come Oct 31.

TRADE 15ac. LAND FOR '06 TRUCK/REEFER OR BELLY
Hello Truckers,
I'm looking to trade my 15ac. plot in Kaufman, Tx for a great running '06 Freight., Volvo, Peet., Ken., or Intl. may consider older model depending on deal and condition. It MUST be mechanically sound with no issue happening throughtout the entire truck (can't afford a breakdown at this time, so lets do a fair deal), plus a trailer, Belly, Reefer, or maybe a Pnue. can be an older model but must be in great shape. But units need to have tires atleast 80% left on them. And a little cash for my own Authority, Ins., Plates, fuel to last until 1st reimbursement, etc. to get me up and running legally. I decided to jump in and get both feet wet. I need to start generating some real income right away. Being that I have been hitting nothing but brick walls trying to get hired on in the oilfields in Texas with my experience. But I'm not giving up. I only have 6mos. OTR recently in the states but a gap til 2004 where I had 1 1/2 yrs. overseas. I have a Tanker endmt. DOT CLEAR, NO TICKET/ACC., NO DRUGS, MED CARD UNTIL 2015. I might add that I am an honest, hard work thats not tied down to keep me from being in a truck working. If there is a buyer who has their own company I could lease on under their authority to offset the cost of me foregoing the expense of getting my own I welcome that. Any suggestions from any of you all who has traveled down this road I will greatly appreciate and encourage it. May God Bless and Drive Safe.

Man you had better have some serious cash to get things rolling. You would not believe the expense that it costs just to keep the wheels turning. Fuel is a b7nch and don't count on not having a bow out. The cost of tire is is stupid. Be real careful and do a lot of planning because if you just trade some dirt and get a truck , well it will be over before you get started good. No offense , I'm just warning you. Not to mention alot to most won't and don't pay for 30 to 45 days and factoring will only cost you your profits. Bst of luck no matter what path you go down!

Thanks for your input, really am/do consider all the above. I'm thinking not to go OTR with the truck but will pretty much stay local hauling rock, or maybe sand. And I heard though the terrain is somewhat fierce on a truck somy thinking would be if I can make what I been hearing o/o's trucks are making I figure the first two months if the truck could hold up with no needed fixes I stand a great chance to possibly have the money saved to repair what may breakdown. What is your input? -
My goal is to work in Odessa/Midland. Next week I am starting school, so I am a NOOB. I appreciate any direction or tips. The companies that interest me and that I have spoken with are FTS, Pumpco, Nabors, Hallaburton, Weatherford, Trican, Schlumberger, FFE, Keane, Schnieder, and Stevens. Most of those want me to work OTR first, which is fine. I can pay my dues.
Do you have any companies you recommend contacting? -
3 years driving experience class A w/tanker endorsement looking for a 14/7 or 14/14 rotation hauling water or frac fluids in texas any info would be greatly appreciated.

Forget about Schnieder They are out of the oilfield in the Midland/Odessa area!

Hey Guy's, Been looking into heading out to Odessa to drive. Got a few question, I'm not a new driver been hauling fuel oil for 6 seasons in the northeast Straight truck but have Class A minimal seat time, Good mechanic, electrical skills. Hazmat, tanker, double/triples, TWIC. Clean driving record. Anyone seeing the minimal class A being a issue? Also my med card expires soon should I wait to get there so I don't waste the 100 bucks here just to retake it there?
