It is a loop hole for big companies to employ people with out paying their social security or offer them benefits as you become an independent contractor but get treated like an employee. The only benefit from these leases is home time but they make darn sure that you don't make enough money so you can't afford to go home. So the next time you see a slick willie offering you .88 cpm + fuel surcharge or even $1/mile plus fuel surcharge.you need to run for the hills or you will be trapped between a Rock & a bad credit History

PS. Some of these companies Idea of fuel surcharge is .20-to .30 CPM even if the fuel prices are $10 / Gallon.

Cluck cluck, she's right. LP deals are a companies forced retention of it's drivers. They are not giving you a truck because they love you or because your their hero, not even close.

They are giving you a truck so they can pass the expense of maintaining a driver on to you. You have now inherited your w/c and SS payments. You will pick up your own mandated health insurance costs or you will pay the penalty. The list goes on and it's mostly beneficial to the carrier.

But I will says this, it is workable under the correct terms with the correct attitude. You have the attitude , no doubt. What's needed now is the correct terms . You also have an offer from a mentor, another plus. Use it, smoke his phone and pick his brain and listen to him. Does no good to call with a question and argue about the answer. You're not a truck driver anymore, you are a business owner, think like that with every decision you make. Remember if you fail to plan then you plan to fail.

You mentioned refrigerated..... a tough game even for veterans......I would not, coming out of the hole.

You didn't mention equipment offers, that is so critical to your success. The wrong truck will kill you, look in here, tons of threads.

Keep us posted on your deal and your travels.....

    Good luck...

you buy a truck at some lease purchase program many out there.
get paid 1.05 a mile plus fuel surcharge, run 3500 miles a week 3675. you get lucky and get 8 miles to a gallon fuel prices are what 3.90 a gallon you need 1950 bucks minus 3675 =1725 minus truck payment 500 week 1225 pay escrow account
350 bucks based on .10 mile plates other accessories after its done you make about 24 cents a mile, just to buy a truck why running for a company that pays bye the mile:biggrin_2551: unless its 1.75 or higher lease purchase not worth it. my 2 cents
