Does anyone know of a trucking company that actually sets a standard with up front honesty? As like other drivers with years of OTR and regional we know of the hidden traps that lay in wait while with companies. Why do we with experience have to wade through the BS to get answers instead of seeing them up front upon a companies recruiting website?
Hi this is the recruiting department of XYZ trucking., may I help you? I was thinking possibly applying as a driver with you. How much experience do you have? About 10 years. Do you have a CDL? Give me a break! Oh lordy sakes here we go. Yes 10 years and was wondering about your pay structure. What do you mean? Grrr, by which mileage system do you pay? We pay .40/mile (not what I asked) PC, Movers, Hub, loaded & empty. Oh now a whole different ball game. Drop and hook, lumpers paid? Do you use EZ Pass? A huge difference when running buy the mile and told to stay off the PA Turnpike which eats the hours and miles.
Do you pay detention? What about mandated fueling which can eat your hours thus mileage? Do you require in house maintenance of the unit which often puts you at a terminal far from home for a 34 hour restart which takes home time away?
As you all know there are a ton of questions that with experience your interested in knowing from pay to the unit its self, APU, inverter, wash policy ect.
I think if a company threw their policy's out front it would benefit them in the area of reducing turn over rates dramatically. But I guess the problem is partly the drivers apply without asking the questions to begin with. I do believe however that when recruiters quotas can not be met and they hear thank you but I am not interested our conditions as drivers will improve.

I am with Shaffer. I just started but they have been up front with everything thus far.

Thanks for the reply . What I am trying to point out is though most companies are very quiet on their policies until after you go into orientation and even then it might take weeks or months to really know.

I know of only one company that meets this criteria. That company is Bay and Bay Transport in Rosemount, MN. They have an extremely high level of integrity and fully support their drivers 100% !!!!

Starhauler excellent points... I ask tons of questions in detail off top when I'm doing my research on companies as you mentioned in your post. Some places dont tell you much while others may tell you honestly. You have to read thru the bs and decipher if its worth it. If more drivers did that they would save themselves A LOT of heartache, trust me. I'm in talks with a company rgt now and this lady was throughly impressed with me so much she managed to go above and beyond on a couple things and I'm not even hired as of yet. Very friendly and totally upfront. The way I look at it is if your not happy where you are at, fix it instead of stay and complain.
