I find it hard to believe that a professional "lost" a driver that he waved in front of him, and having known that he waved that driver in front of him, he would NOT have nosed in so far as to make contact.

I wonder what various states would have to say if one used lethal force in a situation like that, cuz in my mind, 40 tons == WMD and intentional contact w/ another vehicle == use of deadly force worthy of self defense. *shrug*

Lol! I agree! It's the same color as the truck from the Jeepers Creepers movie.

Well in NJ the truck would be cited for "Road Rage" and I believe it's a felony.

I don't know if the story is true or not and don't care but at my company the driver would be fired right there on the spot. Our Los Angeles terminal has been running a pilot program that has cameras installed in the trucks that look forward and at the driver. The company has stressed that they are there for our protection. It's hard to believe how many people run scams to involve our trucks in accidents then go after the deep pockets.

Since running the cameras for over a year there have been several drivers cleared from rear end accidents when the camera clearly showed the truck had no way of stopping.

If there's an incident in the truck during the 12 hour shift the supervisor will download the information and review it with the driver. So far I've heard of no one having any problems and the management has not used it against any driver. I thought that some of our drivers, especially the ones with 20 to 30 years in, would be opposed to the idea but to my surprise they gave it a positive response. However, just like the old tac-o-graphs it can either clear you or hang you.

In all my years I have never had or seen a truck pushing a car down the road. Maybe there all some isolated cases but in my book it would be completely stupid to pull such a bone head move. And if a driver looses sight of the vehicle in front of him then he needs to slow down or change lanes because he's too close. I might be a little more safety conscience than some because I have 12,450 gallons of gasoline behind me but that shouldn't matter. A professional is a professional. Just my 2¢.

Hillballin I had to laugh at that old tanker. It does look like the one used in the movie Duel thou. I learned to drive in a truck just like that, with the whopping 220hp Cummins with a 5X4. And if you wanted the big power you'd slap a turbo on it for 290hp.

I suppose if he was in a long nose Pete and had the seat on the floor, he maybe could have 2 or 3 Kias in front of him and not seen em.
I don't even like to drive my T800 with the seat all the way down. I can imagin what its like with a big hood out there.

I'm not buyin' it littlekia, sorry but the story doesn't add up, and I'm too old and too wise to go for it. I will not go into details as to why I aint buyin' it, but I do have the courage to voice my opinion on it. Somethin' more truckers need to do nowadays.

Interesting conversation here. I too thought of the movie "Duel" right away and its recent counter part "Jeepers Creepers." I do have an observation though and I have not seen any other mention of it here as of yet.

I drive newer vehicles and although I have never driven A KIA I know that in many cars they are equipped with an automatic fuel shut off switch that shuts of the gas supply in the event of an "accident." I do not know if this is mandatory or not for all makes and models.

Now wether her car is equipped with this technology or the "bump" was insufficient to activate this safety feature I can not say. I can say that after slamming the car door on my 2000 Mercury Topaz back in 2002 it did in fact trip the fuel shut off switch. I was not aware of this "safety feature" and had the car towed to the local dealer. After I explained to the mechanic what happened he reached down beside the brake pedal and pushed a little button recessed into the floor and the car started right up.

There was another case of roadrage where this very thing came into play here in Pennsylvania. Apparently a 4 wheeler cut in front of a big truck on I81 a few years back and then proceeded to "tap his brakes" to force the trucker to slow down. This trucker snapped and rather than hit the brakes he hit the throttle. The truck made contact (activating the fuel shut off in the car) and then proceeded to push this 4 wheeler for several miles up I81. The police were called by other motorists as well as the terrified driver in the disabled car and several cops responded. They arrested this driver, towed his rig and the car and last I heard he is in jail and will never be allowed to drive a truck again.
