I was in Mobile, AL the other day & needed to get off I-10 & get on 165 just before the tunnel.... which I did.
My question is, I always thought the tunnel under the bay was off limits to big trucks. I have been through it in a car & a hot shot (one ton) but, I thought big trucks weren't allowed. I noticed the signs before the tunnel say Haz Mat is forbidden.... I think. So, trucks can use the tunnel as long as they aren't hauling haz mat? OR are trucks forbidden?
Who can clarify what the deal is?
As always, thanks![]()

Thanks guys. I appreciate the civil responses. Most of my driving experience has been local (north La) & while I have run some otr in La, Tx, Ar & Ms... I just expanded that with a new job to include AL. So, I've really never ran that area or ever had to deal with that tunnel in a big truck.
Again thanks for not hammering me as a 28 year driver not knowing that.flyingmusician Thanks this. -
Translation: If youre going westbound, you get off exit 27 (US90 right on Bay Bridge road, right on I-165 N to I-65 south. I don't think Ive ever been through the Mobile tunnel.Grumppy Thanks this.

I hauled ice cream through there which is hazardous to your waistline.

Ice Cream is comfort food. It takes priority over all other hazardous loads.
