These routes don't come up very often at all, very hard to get so we really can't wait until his credit is better. With this in 3 years we will own the truck plus they get bonuses and paid vacations, things he doesn't get now as well as not have to deal with these contractors anymore

I doubt a 600 is low enough to keep him out of fed ex. I bought my house with not much more then a 600. Right now I'd kill for a 600 so don't get me started on credit scores.
What Brick was meaning by age limit at all times is this, They require a 2003 or newer truck right now, next year will it be a 2004 truck or newer? Get it? Most companies with age limits say 5 years old or newer so you wouldn't want to get into a truck that they wouldn't let you run next year. -
wow, I'm slow tonight

Yeah, it is only at the time of the contract then they are "grandfathered" in I guess, otherwise they wouldn't have any drivers I would imagine LOL

Are you financially prepared for fuel expenses, any maintenence expenses, insurance expenses, Fedex expenses etc... Do you have money set aside for living expenses until checks start coming in ??? And if you " can't wait until credit is better " you may want to re-think that thought process.

We have a bit put aside but they do begin paying the first week and I think he said they give him a debit card for the gas which is discounted of course and comes out of his checks. They also pay so much per month or two I think for maintenance as well as several other perks. It really seems like a good company to contract with.

there is no doubt. them fed ex contract are nice if you can get them.
Aren't they all team runs though? -
From what I hear him say, the drivers drive alone. He will be driving this route alone. It may be different state to state or OTR. Him being home every day on this route will be HUGE for us since we have a 4 year old, right now he is only home on weekends and then tired all weekend.

Nope, not all teams, I know a guy who runs VA to, Hagerstown to Snow Shoe PA every night. This is a dangerous game to play, I'd reccommend $18,000 in the bank and buy anew truck. We trade ours at 400,000 and let some one have them rather than do the repairs after that. Get's more and more to maintain one after 400K and the downtime can be costly as well. I've tried for years to get people to think about it but ends up on blind ears. Buy a new one, write it off over 4 yrs and trade it in on a new one. Big write off, good ride and no problems. Form a LLC so they can't take your home away. Go with the long mileage synthetics and save money, carry your lunch, don't buy truckstop food on overnight runs. Use every trick you can dream of !
Sacred Feline Thanks this.
