I've met a couple of other guys with KW's. Seems they don't have problems with their ISX's either. I think I've made some bad choices.

Had one for a trip and rolled over and fell out of bed. I went back and got my international back.

Know what you mean Nate. Engine coughed a few times and derated going up a lease road. Spun out. Time to go get the cat.

Volvo is supposed to have a heavy spec coming out next year for oilfield. Most people are waiting for that to buy.

We have three around here, all do the job but take bad damage in mud and getting yanked by tractors. The single biggest issue seems to consistently be getting parts. Volvo parts can sometimes only be sourced in winnipeg or back east.

For infield why not go western star? Jesus that's what they live for. You can't compare a heavy spec star to anything but a kenworth t800 for ruggedness and parts/service in the patch.

I used to have a western star - I learned how to drive in one. I loved that truck. 4900 FA.
I've heard that the Detroits have had similar problems with their DEF and Fuel Rails. Difference being is that
at least Detroit tries to actually solve their problems.
I have thought of going to a KW, but again - am shying away from Cummins.

However, knowing that parts may be an issue now has me concerned about that.
Thanks very much for bringing that up.

I've driven volvo before, and I like them. From what I have heard is that there I-shifts are a standard option now.

I would see if you can talk to Basic. He bought a Mack for oilfield work I believe up in Grande Prairie so he could talk to his experience so far with the MP8/D13 engine and offroad.

I still believe that Volvo has figured out the engine to best so far. By no means perfect but the biggest rap they get is from their older engines not from their EPA10. But truckers never hold a grudge. I have had good luck with my MP8s. The only issues I have had in over a year with three trucks total now is the fans (one replaced under warranty, and working on getting the other. They were mis-speced but I bought my first two off of the lot so not much I can do third truck with a better fan hasn't caused any issues) and an EGR cooler had to be replaced to fix a coolant leak under warranty. Other than that no major issues. The odd sensor goes but that is just part of the business now it seems. I know one owner that has switched all except his BC mountain work to Mack from KW with Cummins.

I can't speak to the offroad work for either Mack or Volvo or how they hold up as I am on highway. I did look at western star when I bought my third truck to see the other options out there but they are too heavy for me when you get paid by the tonne and are on the highway. The price was a bit steeper than I would have also liked.

It is definitely "luck of the draw", even with all this technology!!! nothing but a wait and see what the manufactures throw at us next, i'm on the verge of a rant here!! They use us as guinie pigs to real world test these engine controls and computer programs which always works great in simulations, and if there is a bug well a stroke of the mouse will fix it!! But in the end we all pay for it , owner ops get it in the rear instantly especially if your relatively new to the game, not to mention the "push" for greener everything, and government mandated B.S. to go with it . I'm all for technology , but for heavens sake prove in the real world first!!! Ok i'm done . (I run 2010 Lonestar ISX 18 w/40's when its good it's great, 2nd egr valve now, but I enjoy the 8+ mpg pulling trains for the most part (that's average)
