F&S has been my best driving experience with my few yrs of experience as a flatbedder. Regular loads & great support system. I recommend any safety oriented driver come to work.

Tricks of the Trade - Occupation Specific Discussions
This section is specifically for the flatbed niche, not for newbs looking for flatbed jobs.
Newbs are welcome to learn about flatbeds but there's other forums for specific companies

Why don't the admins move these threads to the proper forum?
This sloppiness is an ongoing problem.

I spent the last week talking to a Fraley and Shilling driver. Guy had absolutely nothing bad to say about the outfit, and that was a company that fired him over speeding! Yes, they are very, very, very, VERY safety and CSA conscious. Plus, the pay ain't chump change.
Yeah, I'm putting together the application even as we speak. They've got an operation just north of me, and never advertise for new employees. That, plus the sales job from a former driver, pretty much sold me on the company. -
I've been driving flatbed for them for several years now and I think they are a great company. You are right about watching the CSA scores. They are very tough on traffic violations of any kind but they are upfront about it. They send us qualcomm messages when someone gets popped for doing something stupid and what it did to their CSA score just as a reminder. One thing they have going for them over other companies I have been with is #### good people in the office. Hell, Robert Schilling, the owner, knows who I am by name and will talk to anybody. I've never had that before!

Hey brsims-- Are you driving for F/S? I'd like to pick your brain if I may for a minute? I have often thought about F/S. I'd like to know:
-what type of training they put you through if you don't have much flatbed experience?
-home time policy?
-do they deal with freight outside of steel? if so what do they deal with, lumber, shingles??
-where do they operate from being out of the Pittsburgh area?
-Are inverters allowed, if not do they have some sort of an APU on the truck?
I'd sure appreciate the info. -
You can pick, but there ain't much brain there so be careful!
Training for me consisted of an hour or two out on the training trailer, but I grew up around flatbedders and already had a good idea of what to do.
Home time is pretty much every weekend. We run regional, so there's none of that out two and three weeks crap here.
Being out of Pittsburgh, you'll be based out of Brilliant, OH. About 7 miles south of Steubenville, OH. That's also where you'll do orientation.
You that Western Express flatbedder I talked to last week?TDriver4Life Thanks this.
