Well folks, Its been brought to my attention that I may not have the patience for this job. I explained in single syllable words just what the person offering me this sage advice could do and even offered a visual demonstration of the tactics involved.
I raised two children and have been married and never moved beyond drunken consideration of any bloodletting. If that doesnt prove my patience, I just dont know what would.
In relevant trucking news...got delivered this AM and had a preplan picking up at 11 local, got here on time....and am waiting. Got some tamales and mexican rice at a little truck stop in Seligman or whatever that towns name is before Kingman. Delish!
Beyond that.....I got nuthin. You all be safe this week! Many miles and many smiles.Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
so... my second trip home and second time wracked with problems. I get a load out of Laredo to BNSF in Haslet. low and behold no load hasn't been billed. sit and wait. my preplan is for Dallas to amarillo loading 10am.. I don't get off break til 11. hop in the fuel line at 10:45 so I can roll ASAP and get an empty. fuel line is packed and takes over an hour to get my fuel. noon rolls around and I am finally picking up a trailer at Kraft. needless to say now I am getting calls for "why aren't you picking up yet?"
i don't have the patience To be treated like a child, I inform of the problems and it should be realized at this point that OTD is pretty much out of the question. told to pick up and roll. 5pm - 4 hours to load. what else could go wrong right? Tandems won't slide (old lever style with a bent linkage) I do everything I can and end up having to go to TA. traffic sucks and takes 2 hours to go 30 miles. 2 more hours to get the tandems slid and still over weight. told to roll with it. I now have 5 hours left for the day to get to Amarillo. not going to happen. i send a running late. Shut down in Childress and roll at 10 the next morning. All is good. so I thought. I arrive for delivery at noon. no new appt scheduled. great. I call and send qc requesting new appt. check qc and call every few hours. I get the runaround until 8am Monday that can't get a new appt before tues 2300. I am supposed to be here for home time. not sitting on a load for 4 days while someone figures out "hey this load is late and we should reschedule". the process should have been started on Friday.flue Thanks this. -

Hey, just a few words of advice from someone that's been here a while.
All rail loads have to be 'rail billed'. Takes about 30 seconds on the phone, but you have to be loaded and bills in hand to do it. Dispatch or your DM can do it. Pretty simple. Wish they put a notice on the load assignment telling drivers to 'be sure and call dispatch for rail billing after loaded'.
But they don't.
Second thing is how appointments work.
Most appointments are set by the shipper, not Stevens. If you miss an appointment, your DM has to notify the CSR at Stevens, who on mondays especially is very busy dodging blame bullets for things that went wrong over the weekend, for which they have no control.
Remember, Stevens is a company that seeks blame, not solutions to problems.
Then the CSR has to contact the shipper, who then contacts the receiver and back up the chain with an answer.
Some accounts, like Walmart, have to be done thru the internet and a secure web site, for which almost no one outside the dept heads and CSRs have access. So what could be a simple solution done by a weekend dispatcher, has to wait until monday after the CSR has discovered all the problems, and dodged all the bullets.
I have, on occasision, got the local scheduling person's phone number from the guard shack at a Walmart DC, then called and represented myself as 'Stevens Dispatch', and succesfully rescheduled myself. doesn't work all the time, but about half.
Other than that, been playing the sit around and wait game in Cali a couple times. Have a load out of Salinas now, headed to Cheyenne.
Hopefully can get a preplan from meat turning me back around. I like the Cali runs. But I noticed it's been slow lately.
Trying to see if I can get myself down on a Dallas-Cali route for the winter. I don't like snow anymore.
Y'all keep the rubber side down.

I emptied in Los Angeles last night and had a preplan that was then cancelled and replaced by another, both were loads that were scheduled to pick up two days ago, so I am not sure if it is slow and we just missed them or if we just didn't"t have enough trucks to get everything.
The cancelled one was to Dallas, the one I am on to Denver. Denver is better, can get student 2nd Mtn and the Northwest out of the way, then a meat load to the Northeast and knock that out. -
KMac...if I see you while I'm out in the "Student Driver" truck north of Denver I will wave...lol.
