Not at all. They hire lots of guys with no cdl and train them. Drivin is a very small part of the job and having hazmat really helps.

Stevens is a training company, your pay will be lower, and they have had troubles keeping contracts, and work for the drivers. But it gets your foot in the door, and some pay rolling in, while you look for a better company.

this is what I was hoping to hear, we are supposed to hear back from them tomorrow, but have decided to roll on down Friday regardless. Figure we don't have much to lose, if we cant find a job or a house, we can come back to WV with the money we have for a deposit with heads held low. Gotta give it a shot anyway.

You won't be having any low hanging I heads! There is lots of work it may not be what you want right away but it is here. The oilfield isn't a shake hands and start tomorrow kind of place. They take their time 9 hiring so don't be impatient. But if you are willing to take a medial job in the mean time it will get you through. Keep your head up and your goals high, it will come!

i appoligise for not reading the entire thread. but if i was in your shoes id send hubby up first to get a job and get a few balls rolling first then uproot and move. i know you said he doesn't want to spend time away from home but if he went a month or two ahead of everyone else i think it would make things easier.

VERY serious, brother-in-law didn't renew his hazmat though. They are both going to test before we come down but they told me it could take a week or two.
I absolutely agree that it would be easier to have them go down first, but with one vehicle at the moment it would make it almost impossible.
My husband is only making 9.63 an hour, GOTTA be something better than that there. If not, well, I would rather be broke there where there is better jobs than here where there isn't much to choose from.

I'm sorry bikerdave, I had confused you with someone else that I had spoke to. Forgive me, but which company were we doing the app with? Have done so many and talked to so many companies the names run together.

Found the post, so it was the hazmat that had stopped him from filling out the app.
