Well thank you all fore your quick response. I got a call from kim today and she said they were going to check out my work history and I need to fax them some papers. I did for get to ask a few key questions tho. Do they open a scale for you after you are loaded and who pays the tolls. Im really excited and look forward to learning a lot she said 3 days orientation and 3days class room. Im easy going and get along well with people I think lol.

Not sure what you mean about the scale. Trans Am pays for company drivers scale, but lease pays there own scale fees. Yes Trans Am pays all tolls, company or lease. We have pre-pass/ ez-pass, but the pre-pass is currently turned off.

Yep, TransAm pays tolls, company drivers' scale fees, and reefer fuel. I am in a five year lease and most likely not leaving anytime soon. <_< Even though Im spending the morning tellng them Im about to bobtail back to Olathe because I have enough fuel to get there without stopping. Its just time for another heart to heart with the right people to fix recurring problems.

For the most part, I am happy with my dispatcher, miles, and equipment which is more than some can say.

After the 3 days classroom, you head out with a coach for 11 days then return for testing out and truck assignments. As a company driver it's a 50/50 shot as to whether you get a T660 or T700. Just depends on what is currently available on the yard at the time. Being female, they would send you to Olathe for orientation. Its m understanding that all women go to Olathe for orientation. At least thats what Darren told me. I had asked to go to Rockwall as I had local frirnds attending the same orientation date in TX, but I was told we go to Olathe.

Good morning everyone. Passport, how are you? The news from the Phillipines is so horrible. I know you have spent time there. Words fail me ...I can not imagine what those folks are going through.
Has anyone heard from joey or jaso? They have been MIA for a few days. Pete, I hope Patty is feeling well and getting stronger every day.
Welcome krazyhorsechick! We will be happy to have you join us. TransAm is not a bad place to start your career. It has good points and bad just as any other company does. You have probably seen everyone talk about the training process lacking....it puts more of the responsibility on you to make the effort to learn....not a bad mind set to have when you choose this lifestyle. There are many many good tips on this thread that will help you as you get started ....and many good drivers willing to answer any questions. There are frustrations and we do whine and complain a bit, but everyone supports one another and helps them to deal with those frustrations. I wish you the very best of luck and once again welcome!

HOMONYMS are words that sound alike but have different meanings.Homophones are a type of homonym that also sound alike and have different meanings, but have different spellings.

Here ya go, kirk. You made me curious ....been too many years since I was in school ....so I just had to look it up or it would bug me all day!

Others have covered the most important stuff. I will just add few random, misc. bits. If you are approved to go to TransAm orientation, they have done the checks and you are really hired. If you are a new driver and go into the lease program ... you are wrong. Most of the orientation staff is paid a commission to recruit lease drivers so you will be hit with the hard sell to lease but if you stand your ground you can and will be accepted as a company driver. You will get a truck as a company driver when it is time to go solo.

As others have said, TransAm does pay tolls, scales, fax charges, for load bars, washouts, etc. for company drivers. The trucks at TransAm are nicer than the trucks from the other companies on your list (large power inverters, built in fridge, sat radio, APU, etc. ). Expect about 2600 to 2800 miles per week as a company driver.

Another nice thing about TransAm is that we don't chain. We stay (mostly) east of the Rockies and don't go to places where chain laws are in effect.

    Good luck!

Hiya, HTQ:hello2: . Since I had my issue about bad swaps, I have had nothing but good runs. I will have my highest mileage week this week than I have ever had with TransAm. I figure they will let me run up some miles to appease me for a short while, then it will be back to the same old ways.

I am the same as you. Overwhelmed by the news of devastation. Overwhelmed by both the scale and degree of devastation. I have a network of online friends from the Philippines and so many are suffering right now.

Some of the pics I posted in this thread earlier are from Bohol Island (ones from the back of the motorbike). Bohol was hit very hard by both the recent hurricane and the super storm last week. I am not particularly religious man but in times like this I do find myself sending up prayer. The people of the Philippines can use all the help that they can get right now.
