that is me too, I called but they said Thanks but no Thanks, Go get a good clean cleaning and come back! I'm working on that now.

 

I had a 30-minute visit with Joanne, a recruiter, at JCT HQ a few days ago. I was given one woman's name, but unfortunately, I am a horrible planner when it comes to personal, unannounced visits...I got there just as almost the entire recruiting team was going on lunch break! So I missed her but did have a wonderful talk with Joanne. I am very impressed with our discussion.

To me there are three critical parts to a truck driving company: Safety; Equipment; and LOH (length of haul), in that order. Coming from an aviation background, I have been accustomed to well designed training programs, effective oversight, and being given the freedom to act within the parameters set down in a well-written policy manual.

Nothing about what I heard from Joanne (and read in the promotional brochure I was given) have moved me away from wanting to drive one of those trucks. Unfortunately, because they just completed a major hiring binge to fill new trucks, they require 6 months of what Joanne called "true 48-state OTR." Being a driver for a small Midwest regional motor carrier with limited destinations, I don't meet their current requirements. She did say I should get back with them next year - which is good, since I'm not available 'til then, anyway - because I 'might be able to convince management' because of my stable work history. And they're getting an additional 75 new power units soon.

Until then, I remain a huge fan of JCT's lease program.

PS. For those of you looking for some cool color in the the new '14's like the previous years', don't. They're all going to be JCT white. It's less expensive.

The most important sentence she uttered in my presence was this: The company will neither ask you nor tolerate you operating illegally. Coming from a regulatory enforcement background, that rang true with me. Honestly, there was nothing to dislike. Not one thing.

 

The second most critical sentence she uttered was an answer to my question about ending the lease early. Yes, they do have a real walk-away lease. The only requirement is to drop the power unit and trailer in Sapulpa. That's it. Pretty simple.

 

Nice post DD. I have been here as long or longer than anyone else active on this forum as far as I know. And to be honest we did not alway operate that way. Many people left as we transformed into a legal running outfit. None of us like change. But truth be told after modifying my driving style to be focused on mileage over time, my pay is back up were I like it to be.
The equipment and personel are top notch and for the most part they will treat a person they way that person treats them. And it's hard to ask for much more than that.

 

Another thing about that lease. If a person wishes to pay their equipment off early the option is there. You would pay only the principle due at that time without any early payment penalty as other outfits do.
