I Lived in Dallas Texas for 35 years of my life and worked all types of trades . Unfortunately I also liked to party so that led to alot of mishaps. I got a girl Pregnant and she moved to Pennsylvania. After being here a couple of months she calls me and tells me ,she is pregnant. At first I did not believe her ,but deep down I wanted to get away from Dallas, so I gave it a shot I came to Pa. With a backpack full of clothes and a cordless drill. The first day here I got a job with a drywall company. Then quickly realized this place is a hard place to work . Most construction trades are laid off over half of the year. I went to school and got a license for HVAC and was doing well but one again , The small town I live in does not have a large population. So Now I am debating Driving a Truck. My Daughter is at the age now where I can travel to make some real money. I want to make a good life for her. I do have drug charges in the past but they are 10 years old and I have a great driving record. I am paying out of pocket for this class $5,000. does that sound high? Schneider wants me to go with them right off the Bat ,and they have tuition Reimbursement. and 32 C per mile OTR. I would rather tanker in the Bakken ? If thats at all possible anyone know any companies out there that have that type of schedule 4 weeks on and 2weeks off. Thanks for listening anyway. I have learned alot on here so far and look forward to gaining some real Trucker knowlege of this forum
42 year old tradesman

Schneider tanker division would be a good job.
Roehl has some type of 2 weeks on/2 weeks off or something similar.
If you can go with Schneider tanker, after 6-12 months you might land a very high paying local fuel/chemical tanker job and be home every day.findyaquick Thanks this. -
Roehls home time fleets are slip seat, which requires being near a terminal, or drop yard. The nearest to the OP is Mogadore OH, outside Akron. A bit far to commute, even every two weeks. Would be for me anyway.
findyaquick Thanks this. -
I ws really hoping to get something just like that Chinatown Marcellus shale is drilling all around here but they are adoment about Experience and Osha and all kinds of hoops to jump through and they still don't pay like they do in the Bakken, But it is close to home. Akron is not too far for me if it's every two weeks

Ever heard of a company called Barr Nunn
-
Yes, Barr-Nunn, pretty old dry van company, been around awhile. Not sure if they hire new CDL grads or about home time.
Roehl and Knight Transportation are the only two I can think of right now that will work you part time or 2 weeks on 2 weeks off.
If you go with Schneider for 6-12 months with tanker, then a whole new world opens up; oil field tankers or local fuel/chemical tankers. -
Schneider tanker is pretty good from what i hear
-
I'm sorry I mis typed it is 4 weeks on and two weeks off.lol.. I don't have to have that but ia full week every now and again would be real nice.I am going to talk Tanker and see where that goes , I can't do Canada but I can do ports and and bases

Schneider and Superior-Carriers hire new CDL grads for tanker/hazmat. Don't know if Superior-Carriers has tuition reimbursement; not showing on the website that I can find.

Knight Transportation does not have Tankers. Knight does have a Terminal here in Carlisle, PA. I don't know if it anywhere around you but i also know There is a Schnieder Terminal here too in Carlisle. As for knight, which yes i do drive for, they will work with you on your time off as long as you let them know from the very beginning this is what you want. The miles are good, myself averaging about 3500 - 4200 a week, and the pay is ok, $.35 - .$42 per mile after 1 year. They also have tuition reimbursment. The first thing to do is call knight up and discuss your options with them. So far so good with this company and the benefits are good too. My wife is not complaining about the pay or the benefits so that i guess is a plus lol. Oh i too started out at an older age. 43. Lets just say i am glad i started out older because with age comes an understanding of what you want and how to obtain it.
