And don't jump up first thing in the morning and turn on the wiper blades to clear the snow. Good way to tear the blade of the wiper arms. Use the broom/brush/scraper to get most of the snow off and wack the wiper arms to make sure they aren't frozen to the windshield.

I use a another approach, more along the lines of... preventative.
Especially if I know snow/ice is expected, I thoroughly "deep clean" my windshield, making sure it is clean from all oil/grease.
One application of glass cleaner often is not enough. I use crumpled newspaper for first cleanings, followed by microfiber washrag size towels for final cleaning.
May sound overly "anal", but cleaning/preparation is the most important step.

I then use Aquapel, which is "similar" to Rain-X, but way better. However, it must be applied when the truck surface and environment temperature are above approx 60°, so if you had not applied it just before the cold weather sets in, it may require you to have your truck parked inside a heated "garage/shop" to apply it. Once applied and briefly "dried/cured", it's good for all weather.

It doesn't last forever, but for a few winter months it will allow snow and ice to not stick to the glass. Brushing snow and ice off is then easy peasy.
Not only that, but water from the snow/ice beads up into micro-droplets while driving, to the point where you can actually drive without wipers. (You'll see why I say that, tho I'm not telling you to not use wipers). ;)

Great ideas. I once had my pete dealer install a pair of vibrating windshield wipers. Anytime I had a buildup of snow and ice on my wipers, I would just press the button on the dash and it would knock it right off. Worked like a charm.

i like that idea of vibrating wipers. might have to look into that. LOL.

you guys sure do a lot of work to keep that snow off the windshield.

i just fire up the vehicle, and let defroster warm up the windshield. and brush away.
