Sealer Ring In Thermostat housing on D12 465HP

    Changing out the thermostat and all the o-rings this weekend and I am having a tough time trying to get that one sealer ring seated back into the housing. I have tried hand pressing and using a socket to get it to seat. However, when I go to put the thermostat back in, it is pushing the sealing ring back too far so it falls into that cavity. Any suggestions would be much greatly appreciated...

    U have to push it in with a socket 2 inch i believe and thats a ##### u have to be extremely carefull u got the right idea its just a matter of getting it done carefully thats the biggest ##### on a d12 thermostat

    Ya I have been using the socket but just cant get it to seat just right and back far enough that the thermostat does not knock further back into that cavity. I was hoping I was doing something wrong, but I guess its just another one of those VOLVO tricky things to do....ugh....

    Don't laugh but when you get it in place,put some butter on it.
    It will make the thermostat slide better and butter is harmless to rubber and paperseals.

    Trust me, I didn't laugh....I have been working on trucks for many years and have heard of and tried really weird things to make something work....lol thanks, I will try that. The sealing ring that I pulled out had the leading edge facing opposite of the thermostat, is that the correct way? Or should the leading edge face thermostat and smooth surface opposite to thermostat?
