I live 330 miles away from Olney and do the walmart dedicated there. For me its similar to OTR as far as hometime. One day off for each week out. I'm out 4-6 weeks then home 4 days. But for the guys that live close enough they have several different schedules. Two days off each week, 7/2, & 6/1 are the ones I've heard about, and of course they are home every day too. I started when Prime first took over the account and I'll never do anything else.

Prime is no different than a lot of other companies, they do what they have to do to service the account. There's not exactly a huge pool of drivers living in and around Olney, IL. So they fill in with OTR guys if needed, but most of the runs are covered by drivers in the Midwest Regional Division. As for repairs, we have a shop on site. Maintaining the Walmart trailers is part of the contract, so we have guys there 24/7.

Would landing the dedicated Olney, IL route be out of the question during my first year? I live outside of Springfield, IL.

It's quite likely you can start right away after training. Don't bother with your FM- he has nothing to do with it. Talk to recruiting when you start, indicate your preference right then and there. Then, make sure you get the number to the dispatch office in Olney, and talk to them.

Thanks for the quick response IP. I want to go where the money is and I'm the first to admit that I know very little about dedicated routes, the differences in home time, pay, etc. I'm not afraid to run as much as legally possible. If OTR is going to be a better paying gig, I'm all for that.

We need more truckers like you man, number one priority is safety, if the driver ain't comfortable, it ain't safe. Managers don't care about anything but meeting their quotas, and getting the moolah.

We need more drivers like you man. Managers don't care about safety, just making money. You've got to get into in argument. Sad, but true.
