I live in Texas now. Fresh out the Army, now driving OTR. I can get a job hauling frac water in ND or Texas, both pay about the same...What are the advantages of working in ND over Texas? Anyone heard of MBI? Thoughts?
Texas or North Dakota?

as another person living in Texas, i'd look at it as "Snow vs Heat." lol.

Yep, 1 is too hot and the other is too cold. Texas has a more established infrastructure to accommodate drivers . ND, not so much.

texas in the winter, dakota in the summer.
only way to make the money work. is to live in your truck or bring a camper. cuz rent in dakota is EXPENSIVE.
you can also add the cost of going home and coming to work. guy i talked too was a mechanic that works 6 weeks and goes home for a week. he said he goes to minot airport. $350 to phooenix. and rents a car from there. -
Didn't you just ask AND answer your own question?
If the money is not better, I can't imagine a reason to go to ND....fewer rattlesnakes? About it. -
If both jobs pay about the same then stay in Texas. No state income taxes equals more money in your pocket.

Plenty of nice apartment in San Angelo starting around $400. I been looking in the local paper. the only problem is most all the work is 20 miles or so out of town not all but most. but still worth the drive to get a good night rest and a bath.

I wouldn't exactly call Midland area hot...but then I've lived in Yuma AZ and Las Vegas NV...I'd give Texas the advantage because of:
Available apartments vs man camps
no state income tax
moderate weather
Prettier ladies
No tire chaining
....It's FREAKIN TEXAS!
BigRigCT Thanks this. -
with all due respect to ND, having lived in ND for a year dealing with towns that have only one gas station and the weirdest people you will see, stay in Texas.......trust me

The guys I know who came up from TX to ND to haul water tell me TX pays less. Here, they average $30/hr. There, they say about $24/hr. If you are working hundreds of hours per month (um, I mean 70 hrs/wk) then the difference becomes clear. But then, it's frickin cold up here, so if that reckoning interferes with your work, stay with the $24.
I like TX better for everything but the money.
