After a rough start to his week I checked his driver portal and saw that he had ranked up and still has 100% on time loads. He said he thought they gave bonuses every 3 months so if that's true he should get one in December. Does anyone know anything about that or what part of the month he'll get it?

The rough start happened in West Virginia on Monday. He was going up a mountain and his engine blew, then caught on fire, which he got out right away. Swift sent a tow truck and he went to their terminal (for the life of me I can not remember which one). We were afraid it'd be days before he got in a different truck but he called me this morning and said they assigned him a 2014 freightliner Cascadia with just 6000 miles :) He really likes his new ride and he'll be ready to head out at 5am tomorrow.

On his W2 when he filled it out he put married, claiming 2. If he changes that to married claiming just himself, will that lower how much they take out in taxes? Or are they already taking the minimum out like that? After Christmas he's going to just stay out 3 weeks at a time instead of 4. If he can avoid taking an advance every week it'll really help his checks out so we'll just try to stock his truck with enough food and cigarettes to last 3 weeks and it'd also probably help if he had a little cooker in there and a fridge/freezer so he could fix hamburgers, etc.

    I'm a proud trucker's wife right now though :)

Yep, the more dependents on paper the less they take out.
Just make sure it don't bit you in the back side come tax time..

No, more deductions mean less money from the paycheck.
    Less means more money.

Bonus pay is paid every three months, in the first paycheck after the period.
It is based on your ranking throughout that period.
So if he were Bronze for some time and then Silver the rest, it is adjusted for the weeks of your ranking.
    12/31 would be a cut-off point. As would be 04/30, 08/31...

And yes, it is a good idea to get a 12V oven. With that he can cook some decent meals at a cheap price.
Today I am making a baked potato with some vegies and salmon.
Yesterday I had baked chicken (via Walmart) with Rice-a-Roni and vegies.

I had a new Cascadia, once upon a time.
Then it was determined that it was a teem truck, and I lost it within the month.

Hello NTW! I have never driven for SWIFT, so I have to ask, what does "ranked at silver," mean?
As for his W2, if he changes to married but just claiming himself, they will take more out of his check. If he changes his request to "Married, but with hold at single rate," they will take even more out. This can be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on what your tax status is.

The idea of course, is to have what you owe, and what they take out, to balance out, or come as close as possible. You don't want to wind up having to pay taxes out of pocket come April, but you don't want to have way to much withheld either. Some folks do this deliberately, knowing they will get a decent size tax refund. But when you do that, you draw no interest on that refund, and in essence you are "loaning money to the government, interest free."

Some folks say that is the only way they can "save money," but they are really losing money by doing it that way.

Congrats to the hubby on becoming a silver even though I have no idea what that means. And congrats on the 100% on time. Although I think its a little backwards that he pukes a motor and gets a truck that's practically brand new. Not saying anything is his fault but man he needs to puke a motor every week if they'll give him a new truck. Hope he enjoys the new ride and hope he is doing well at swift.

We used to do married at highest single rate years ago at a regular job and we needed to.
But he did that with his new job flatbedding! I about passed out when he got his check!!! Needless to say he got it changed!!

Of course there is no way of us knowing what the history of that particular truck is. Perhaps the company knew that it was about to die?

Congratulations, I bet he isn't in that truck long till they find him and it goes to a team. Just saying! but if he is hitting his marks they may leave him there?

What do you mean, until they find him? They (his home terminal) were the ones who put him IN the truck lol. His first truck was an 08 Volvo that had regen issues and his first solo trip they took that and put him in an owner-op truck International pro-Star. When I was with him for 2 weeks that truck had some issues climbing the mountains then. I don't see why they would take him out of a truck they just assigned to him. He does a good job for them and has a decent DM.

For whoever asked, the ranking is based on miles driven and percentage of on-time loads and accidents. Every 3 months you get a bonus based on how many miles you averaged. That's how it was explained to me. Since August he's had about 58 loads and done about 28k miles. He intends to keep his perfect record as long as he can.

Yes he likes working for Swift, just had some rough patches with low checks but we'll get it figured out. I think him only being out 3 weeks at a time will help, especially if he has a way to cook in the truck.
