Hey all, I've got about 8 months experience and have yet to run into this issue
The WtDot web page has more than one light load advisory between where I'm at here in Cheyenne to Laramie.
But when I check actual wind speed on their web site the HIGHEST gust I've seen is 45mph
Kinda biting my nails because there's snow scheduled to arrive here after five
So if I wait it out I'll be stuck with snow.... but if I go I have a light load issue.
I thought they only put out a LTL advisory when it's 50+ ?
light trailer advisory// only have 12k on, but weather station says 40-45mph

Update: the highest wind I've seen on the page in the advised area is in buford at 39mph gust

If the road is open in wyoming and you can manage it then you should go. Just drive slower. If you REALLY feel uncomfortable out there you can pull off at a rest area or even onto a ramp if absolutely necessary. Wyoming can get very bad, very fast. The wind is not likely to die down .... ever. If you wait til 5pm and it is now snowing and windy, then what? I would take driving in the daylight with wind over driving at night with snow, and likely the same or marginally less wind, at night. Your call.

Are 30-40 wind gusts too much for only having 12k in the box?
-
Just drive slower, no cruise control, both hands on wheel... Take breaks because tension and nerves will tire you out quicker... Your comfort level will increase with experience. Just remember to have a healthy respect for it!!
I guess this this advise can pertain to not only wind, but snow, icy conditions and good old fashion rain

Slide your Tandems all the way back it will help some also.
Just don't forget they're back there if you're going to Cali or something. -
Unfortunately the trailer I was put on has an underslung lift gate that limits how far back I can put my tandems.
Grr. This is frustrating. I respect y'alls opinions and and you all say "go for it" but then I look at my bol and see 12k and see the words "advise no light trailers" lol -
the ADVISE NO LIGHT TRAILERS has been up for weeks. so you can either sit and hope that sometime before the year is over the sign goes off. or you can spread your wings and fly.
wyoming is always windy in that part. more then it's not windy. and if your only seeing 35 mph gusts. it's died down from 2 weeks ago when it was 65 mph.
my brother in law told me when i frst started driving was to go fast. the slower you go. the longer your a sitting target in the wind. faster, gets you through the wind sooner. being a rookie though. your going to be a little nervous so slow and steady, and breath deep. and be safe.
another member of the forum posted this very same dillemma over the weekend. wonder if he delivered yet or is still sitting there.
and if it snows. take it with you. i don't want that crap when i roll through this weekend. -
and where's your load going. maybe you can detour through denver.
-
I was out there a couple weeks ago when it was really blowing.
As soon as the sun set it died right down and was safe to go.
