When did these incidents occur, were they ruled preventable, and were they DOT reportable (injury, fatality or vehicle towed from the scene)? When these incidents occurred will determine eligibility to be hired based on the minimum requirements.

The one I mentioned happened last week and yes her car was towed but that was because she wrecked her car when she hit the guardrail. As far as DOT reportable I dint think they were, I wasnt issued any citation and the state trooper basically was giving the 70 year old lady an earful for causing the whole thing. How can I find out if it was considered a reportable and if it was preventable and who determines all that? I described what happened to my safety guy and he said"good driving Joe" so I hope I'm not at fault. Almost identical thing happened in Massachusetts a lady came up on my right as soon as she got in front of me she realized she was going to miss her exit and banged hard right across all 3 lanes and hard in her brakes as I was already standing on mine and the corner of my bumper tapped hers and she spun out and flipped it but what the heck am I to do when 4 wheelers make evasive sudden turns in front of me I did the best I could with the amount of time and space I was given "NONE"

well I found out today I didn't make the initial cut for fort pierce. I did however get some useful insight from them on the hiring process. since I got a call from Palestine and turned it down and didn't get an interview for fort pierce. so if there are some guys out there that haven't gotten the call don't give up hope. they told me they divide the apps up in categories starting with the guys with 2 million miles plus, then 1.5 to 2 and so on . then they review the apps in each category putting them in order from most qualified to least. then they start down the list until they get all positions filled. so you like me may have made the list but just may have been to far down to get the call. the good news in this is if the 1st round don't fill the positions then they start back down the same list. unless they don't have enough of a qualified pool then they repost. fort pierce had an enormous list they said.

If you are company driver, your safety department would do an accident review to determine if an accident was considered preventable. You may want to check with them or former employers from the past 10 years to see if any accidents you were involved in were deemed to be preventable or non-preventable because you need to meet the minimum qualifications below to be considered for a position driving for Walmart. These are listed a few pages into the application. Yes/No questions for each of the below.

Joeyd, I am sure you have seen these requirements. I am mainly posting this for others who browse through this thread and may want to know if they meet the qualifications. :)

Sorry you did not make the cut. I could see where the DC's in Florida would be popular, especially for older drivers. Warm weather and no state income tax. A few drivers from Florida were hired here at Sealy, TX and after they got their one year in, they transferred to Florida. You have a good attitude and are open minded about the process. Being beaten out by a group of more experienced drivers is better than not being considered due to not meeting the minimum qualifications. The part of the process you should be aware of is this: Most of those on the top on the pile in Fort Pierce right now will never make it far enough to even get hired. Most will falter on the phone interview, pre-trip inspection, and road test. Some will also fall off on the employment history and background check. Occasionally, even a few drop off after failing a drug screen. My class of drivers had 30 solid candidates. When it was all said and done, only 2 of us were hired! It doesn't mean most of the other 30 drivers were bad. It is the hiring process is more difficult here and many drivers who apply think it will be just as easy as getting hired by one of the large OTR companies. It is not, and that is why such a high percentage never make it.

There is a lot of good nuggets of information amongst the many pages of this thread. You will be surprised how many posting on this thread and similar ones here on TTR who were seeking out information about Walmart in the past now work for Walmart. I am one of them! I feel you have an inside track on the hiring process just by being here. The information and driver resources here can help make you more relaxed and confident without even needing the in-depth parts of the process revealed, such as actual questions that will be asked during the interview. :)

Not sure what DC you hope to get on with now. Two of the Texas DC's just put openings online in the past few days. Sanger, TX (30 miles North of Fort Worth) and here in Sealy, TX (50 miles West of Houston).
    Happy searching! :)

thanks tom! this thread has been extremely helpful. I am actually hoping to get on at aluchua florida. I applied for for fort pierce because it was first one that came up in florida and that's where I need to be. I knew going in south florida was a long shot but im hoping I have a better shot for aluchua. they must have not gotten as many apps in aluchua. it took 3 weeks before they started calling for fort pierce.they are gonna call this week for aluchua after just a week. so im hoping all the guys with more experience than me went south lol. but if not I also applied for Opelika al, its close enough to where I need to be. so I have a couple more shots before I need to start moving out a little further away.

Good deal. Keep your head up. It will all work out eventually. Waiting is part of the process. Later on you will see it was worth the wait! :)

im staying positive I figure if I got the call for one interview ill eventually get the call for another. I just had to turn the Palestine one down to at least take a chance on florida. that's where my daughter is gonna be so I can at least say I tried. I feel very confident in the fact if it wasn't for this thread im almost positive I wouldn't have made it. I never would have known to take it as serious as I now know I need to. I feel a lot more confident taking in all this information from you guys.

Exactly! That is why in the future you will be here giving advice for the next group of drivers who are in the same spot you were before joining this thread. I sometimes go back a ways on this thread and others to see those of us here and what they were saying before they were even interviewed and compare it to what they say after being hired and working for a while. We all seem to have taken the same path and this thread has helped a lot of us make it to utopia! :)
