Where is everyone #2!!

Well be glad the company that builds those planes isn't responsible for piloting the passenger ones.

We have quite a massive boo boo here this morning, the Dreamlifter landed at the wrong airport about 6 hours ago and the only runway at that airport is about 3000' to short for it to take off again. Boeing security is out here trying to keep it quite but its really hard to hide a 747 sitting at the very end of the runway less than 1/4 mile from the highway. He got her stopped but probsbly ruined all 16 main tires sliding to the end.

 

I'm hauling Boeing this weekend too......... oh wait, I haul Boeing almost every weekend. My oversize going to Moses Lake finally showed up here yesterday morning. Problem now is Boeing in Moses Lake doesn't receive on weekends so can't deliver till Monday morning which also means I won't be back in time to overindulge on dead bird. Oh well, the driver who took a week to get here with my load left here yesterday to head home for dead bird day.

 

I hope we get to hear what they do to fix that problem.

 

They are flying a new crew in this morning, they have turned the plane around (took almost 2 hours) and they're banking on the high winds coming with the cold front. According to the latest on the news they have done all the calculations and they should have "just enough" runway.

Of course this is the private business airport here and until the 747 leaves the runway it's closed so all the business jets parked there that blast off every morning are stuck.

I'm wrestling with leaving this morning to beat the storm or waiting so I can watch it try to take off.

I'm sure the captain $$$$ himself when he realized he had touched down at the wrong airport and the runway was 1/2 as long as where he was supposed to be.

 

I read about this this morning. What a cluster. Hopefully they can take off without any damage. Seems like with all the checks and balances this kind of thing couldn't happen. Wonder if there is an unemployed pilot this morning?

Like it has allready been said, how do you land at the wrong airport??

It's causing quite a stir here this morning. I would assume that if not unemployed they at the very least will be getting sent to map reading school.

Not sure how it happened except the runway they landed on is roughly the same heading as where they were supposed to land except the airport they landed at is 6.2 miles short and a little business airport with one 6,000' runway. The airport they were headed to is an airforce base with parallel 11,000' runways.

The runway their sitting on has a maximum aircraft weight of 60,000# and although they're keeping tight lipped I'll bet that 747 is probably closer to 600,000# with the fuel and cargo it has on right now. I wouldn't be surprised if someone winds up buying a new runway. We wanted to land a Super Connie there about 18 years ago to fuel before going on to Oshkosh and we would have been under 60k landing but almost 82k on takeoff and the airport manager said no. (Going off very old memory but the point was we were close on weight and weren't allowed)

I'm still sitting here struggling, I need to beat this winter storm (ice) out of here but REALLY want to see a 747 do a short field - high performance departure!

 

Now it's caused a few fender benders on the highway right of the end of the runway as everyone stops to gawk at it.

 

I haven't seen an airborne dream lifter but have driven by a couple on the ground in Everett and JFK. I can see why you'd wait. It's either going to be awesome or tragic. I'd imagine they look like a C5 taking off.
