There you go! You got your answer!
In the meantime we kept you entertained and kept the thread bumped so that it wouldn't go to the bottom.
$1200 for 90 hours a week is a little bit over $13/hour with no overtime pay. I LOVE it here and was very happy when my hubby stopped talking about relocating, but local driving jobs stink big time.
I wish you the best of lucks whatever you guys decide to do.

Why on earth would anyone want to be a trucker and have a trucking job in Orlando? My friend, Florida is not the place, sorry to say. Just trying to haul gas in June-August would kill you off.......you can cut the humidity with a knife.
i lived in Orlando for 12 yrs. it's a low paying state. It's not a trucking Mecca
I drove OTR for Indian River for 8 of those years and eventually realized that my future lay elsewhere if I were to be a trucker. That's why I moved to Texas. .
But good luck, you may hit pay dirt and enjoy it. There's some great neighborhoods in Orlando. And the RE is cheap right now. No state income tax either.Trinitrucker Thanks this. -
Im here in nv! How much did indian river pay and how many hours?! Thnx
-
Pay is well but hours low! So almost the same thing

Indian river paid 35c mile loaded, 29c mile MT, when I worked for them, which was in 2004-06 range of years. Decent company and I got plenty of miles but you do sit when off loading milk. Personally, I would stick with gasoline hauling if you can get on. Much better pay than food grade. And you're paid by the load, not miles.
good luck -
Trinity:
I don't know if you're keeping tabs with the Orlando Craigslist but this one was posted yesterday, maybe you want to look into it. I've heard good things about the company.

Apply for the Job @ the interview ask to see some Pay records for their current Drivers that they employ. If they won't show you that information interview is over. Also Energy Dispatch would give their Drivers a few Stations that they will deliver too that is a good thing. I don't know if that is the case now. Everyone that said Florida is low pay for truck drivers is right. I don't see that kind of money maybe LTL. I drove a Tanker in Fla. for 20 yrs. I can't tell you if I would do that again, I did have a part-time job on the side for a number of yrs. Good luck to you in search your for a new life in Florida.

About the job Gitana posted from craigslist. I use to be Plant Sup. for Concrete Company. These loads/companies pay by load. And this happens a lot. If they have a big pour scheduled they will order this ask etc... to keep silo's full. If silo is full you can't pump off your load. I've had many at my plant sit for 8 hours and only get to pump off half load. And times you get to plant and they over ordered and you have to turn around and take back or they may send you to ten buck to at another plant they may need it and then you get stuck there. Please trust me this not something you even come close to making $$ in Florida. Think about this. Their posted for help on Craigslist must tell you something. That's the bottom of the bottom to be advertising for help. Don't mean to be negative. Just telling FACTS!! Besides have 2 friends that use to do that job and they's tell you same thing. Good Luck and hope all works out for ya.Gitana and Trinitrucker Thank this.

My stepdad worked for them until he had a big accident and had to retire on disability (girl texting). He was making about $65k/year. The hours suck though. 12 hour shifts mainly at night, say good bye to your weekends. Not my cup of tea.
I would stick to LTL. Avoid Central here, they blow. Old Dominion has a medium sized yard off Wetherbee and Landstar. Averitt is a few blocks away. Conway has a massive yard off Tradeport. Energy is also in the area right off Vineland. UPS and Fedex are off Landstreet. There is a few dozen local companies all within a 3 mile radius. I live down the street too, just ask me if you need more info.
Taking home $1k after bennies is going to be quite hard right off the get go.Gitana Thanks this.
