I wonder if they experimented with loc-tite under the liner flanges.

I was involved when we glued the front covers on and the heads and rear housing to stop oil leaks now they want you to glue the spacer plate gasket on. They should make a dip you could just immerse the whole thing in. They should, just as a thought make gaskets that actually work, the rear housing had gaskets then it was glued on then a gasket again. then glue. This is the option of the week.
    Just a thought!

I have taken quite a few units apart for leaks that were very recently repaired, many times just draw filing, the separator plate, block and head will fix it, it is amazing the dings you will find on the block and even an exchange head, the separator plate gasket has a sealant on the perimeter. I have found many Cat head gaskets that the compression sealing ring is cracked new from the box. What I do is hang the gasket up and take my finger and going around the perimeter if it snags it is junk. Cat must know of the problem because they never once complained. I never used any added sealants except on the water grommets.
I found that spray gasket glues dry out the gasket and it leaks and cracks a lot earlier than using a very thin layer of Locktite gray 5699, especially on front cover gaskets around the oil galley holes. To me permatex is the worst crap out there it gets hard and breaks down with the heat of the oil.
    Just a thought!
