Hey folks found alot of useful info on here thanks from my fellow rookies! I'm a new driver here just got cdl w all endorsements and fielding job offers is a little overwhelming . Looking for something local but they all want experience also tried oil field but the same want experience and same w tanker. I have a wife and family would like to be home nightly or OTRand home 2 out of 7 days. I have offers from Boyd bros, TMC, Werner,Maverick, Flacon,Roehl,Paschell,Melton,Transport America and CRST ugh. I know I might just have to pick one of these and eat it for 6 mo to a 1year any advice? Also if anyone knows anyone willing to take a chance locally on a motivated rookie in youngstown ohio or withen 60 miles of be a big help. I would have to say Boyd bros and TMC neck and neck so who would ya go with? Any input would be helpful THANKS

I have been with TMC for about a year now, still definitely a rookie. But I have no complaints about the company. You will run in to everyday trucking problems no matter who you drive for. But they have stood behind everything they've said. I have been home every weekend except 2. But #### happens sometimes and I understand that. I've made great money as a new driver as far as I'm concerned. I don't know much about Boyd Bros. I have talked to a few guys that drive for them and they have all said that they are very happy with them. Probably doesn't help much but wanted to let u know my experience so far. Good luck with whoever u go with.

My bf is with Boyd Bros. He hasn't been there very long (only about 5 wks) but he's loving it. He gets along great with his trainer, has been home when they told him he would and they have even started his tuition reimbursement already. There have been a few issues (1st trainers truck engine went down & had to get a new trainer was the most stressful) but they have been great with helping him out. He has been running pretty much non-stop for last 2 wks (except for being home last weekend).

he says that so far he would recommend Boyd to anyone.

Boyd pays $500 a week during orientation and training. They try to place you with a trainer who lives by you to make hometime easier but if you get one who doesn't you will alternate weekends and Boyd pays for a motel room for the one who is not home.

good luck with whoever you choose & safe travels

I know this is kinda straying off the original question of the OP......But, OTR is like a double-edge sword, meaning that quite often the money is real good and you get used to having money in your pockets, on the other hand day-cab or a home weekly gig the money is quite less. Just my 2 Cents !

I'd try PI&I and PGT they are right in your back yard and as far I know they do more regional work. Maybe get you home more often. Valley Trans is over in Ashland, Oh. also. I think PI&I is under contract with the Teamsters, which should mean better benefits, but not always. I would stick with the close to home regional people. There is another outfit called Campf or Kampf not sure, anyway I heard they are good people.

Like anyone just starting out,you have to pay your dues. You're living in a good area to get regional or dedicated.Werner has a drop yard in Youngstown and always looking for net op drivers, which is the same as local. You can ask them about driving local. But you do have to go thru training first which is 6 to 8 weeks. Also the pay isn't the greatest but if you wanna be home every day then you may not have a choice.

Superior-Carriers hires new CDL graduates if you want to get in with tankers faster. 6-12 months with them and you could land a local fuel or chemical hauling job & be home every day. The have a terminal in Cincinnati.

I know this is off subject, but do anybody know where i can go and get driver training from a company sponsored, that do not look at how long you have not work, cuz i haven't work in three years. I put a app. in with Prime in Sept. and Lance Williams told me that my app. may not be consider. Then i put in a app with Mtc today and talk with Rachel she said that the only company that might take my app will be Swift and i heard a lot of bad things about with Swift. Mostly people that i have talk to that's in the truck industry told me DO NOT GO TO SWIFT. Cuz i have been looking since last year for a good company sponsored trucking company to get my CDL and a JOB. So, can somebody tell who can i go to without them worrying about how long i haven't worked.
