Getting home for an emergency?

    Hi Folks,

    My wife and I are getting ready to take the team driver plunge. We've been reading the forums and think we have I good idea of what to expect. Home time is something we are not too worried about but, I asked the recruiter about getting home for an emergency, like a death in the family and they said they would work with us to get us were we needed to be as soon as possible. Have any of you guys/gals had anything like this happen? How did it work out as far as getting home? Emotions alway run high when under that kind of stress. We would like to hear your stories.

    Don't even waste your mind on this subject. Ever this happened and under a load it will get repowered ASAP for you to get home ASAP. No company I know of that mean. May take a day all depends where you are, someone near that can repower, nearest yard , big company with most employees means closer someone to you. Will say this don't lie as they might ask for a funeral remembrance card or whatever they call it passed out at funerals. Cause some drivers lie to get home cause some thinking wife etc... cheating or not getting along. Some take advantage of that excuse to get home. So again don't waste your time thinking of this. get those wheels turning and make $$ and be safe.

    Conway that bad hu? I always heard good things about them. Almost went to work for them years ago but changed mind. Tell you this. I ever worked for them and under a load and they wouldn't help me out getting out from under load to get home for a DEATH in family they would see their truck on side of road cause I'd already know they report on my DAC abandonment and I'd deal with it then . Be dirty I'll play dirty. BOOHOO I got a BOo boo on my DAC cause I rushed home for a family death. Sure that makes my point.

    Thanks GRD! I haven't heard anyone complaining about it and that is what the internet is really about ain't it? To complain that is! So, I figured it would not be a big deal.

    In 33 years of this I have had 3 instances of emergency situations arrive, it was 2 sudden deaths in the family and the birth of my daughter that decided to show up 2 weeks early. All 3 times it was a non issue. I flew home all three times, brought the truck to a truckstop twice and to the terminal once.

    Anything other than death or illness can be planned out. Finding out the better half moved the neighbor in in your absence doesn't count, missing the good things in life also doesn't count, another one that does count, at least for myself, is if one of my Labs should get sick, that would have me on the next flight out.

    I really do try to treat folks the way I would like to be treated and won't not think of taking advantage. The truth is we are not getting any younger and that includes out folks.

    BTW, I grew up in Sarasota so, Howdy Neighbors!

    Well howdy. SRQ across the street/i mean river, LOL Yea I dealing with that with family as we speak. Not young ones anymore. Where you live now?

    We are in Navarre, between Ft Walton and Pensacola. I retired out of Hurlburt Air Patch (HRT) in 07. My folks are still down in SRQ. Are you familiar with Callahan Tire? My step dad worked with them for years.
