Hello, my husband has always wanted to get his CDL and start driving. He is 44 yrs young and a very clean driving record, no criminal history. We have absolutely no clue to the salary he can make in our area and what options are out there for him. We live in the Tampa Bay, Fla Area and he still have to find a reputable school that will not take a huge chunk of money out of his paychecks. I am the researcher in this relationship so I need some help and advice on school for him, type of jobs to look for and great companies to work for. We just adopted 2 SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN, and he just got a pink slip at his job today that as of Jan 1st his position will be eliminated and all our medical coverage was through him. SO medical insurance to our entire family is important also. We don't mind if he is off driving for 5 days and home 2 or 3 or if he has a job he is home every night. Open to anything right now. So any advice you can give me on 1. REPUTABLE SCHOOLS 2. BEST JOBS IN THE TAMPA BAY AREA FOR SALARY< AND MEDICAL INSURANCE for a family and anything else you want to share with this very stressed out family looking to survive I would so appreciate it!
Thank you in advance! If you would like to private email me [email protected]

May get the unemployment office or local dept. of labor to pay for CDL school.
The best paying jobs in your area are probably food service such as US Food Service, Greatwide, MBM etc.

Also better paying jobs are tanker or flatbed after completion of CDL school.
Check these companies for after a CDL school:

Melton Truck Lines (excellent healthcare for driver & family)
    United Van Lines - Tampa
    Armellini
    Cypress Truck Lines near Tampa

Comcar tanker division - pay not great but a start for tanker/hazmat training. Website shows they have a CDL training program. Could use it as a stepping stone for local fuel/chemical hauling with another company after a few months.

The first step is to contact the unemployment or dept. of labor office and try to get started in CDL school.
