Best fuel filters for cat acert

    what micron level is ideal for primary? fs1000 say 10micron,wix33406 says 14, cat 256-8753 says 13.50, which is best? am running a c-10

    The FS1000 works great for a lot shorter time than the FS1212, as far as using a CAT filter, I do not know, they are built a lot cheaper than the Fleetguard, cut them apart and look.
    When the 3406C came out they use to smoke a lot when cold the fix was to change to an FS211. It is a lot bigger filter than the Cat one and works great. The only time I ever saw a new filter fail was a Cat secondary, never used one again. I twisted internally and blocked fuel flow, the fuel preasure port on a Cat is before the filter, It took a long time to figure out the problem and had to make a special fitting to tap into the system, to confirm the problem. Cat was willing to replace the filter, thats all.

    Shouldn't have took that long, the odds of new parts failing is slim I agree. When I have fuel pressure and am reasonably sure I'm not getting fuel to Injectors I go to cracking lines from test port forward till I loose it. Just a thought

    Fwiw I run a FS1023 on the frame on a 142784s base and buy the fs1023 by the case cause they hard to find on the road. If want better availability on road run this cat set up 280-2698 base 256 -8753 filter ....to me those combinations work well. A davco does well also

    I used a fs1000 for about 6 months, but it would only last bout 6000 miles, i have went to an after market base/filter that flows 150gph big big improvement over the stock cat fw separator which it was rated at 90gph too restrictive. I also got rid if all 90 elbows, got a 45 at transfer pump and straight fittings on either side if the fw base

    Diesel filters direct has a unit that flows 150gph and the threads match stock fuel lines so no need to change fuel line ends just swap em out

    Have no dog in this hunt because I have a Detroit engine, but was discussing filters with the regional guy for Donaldson, and they make the Cat filters. That is why you get similar performance between them. I have used Donaldson filters for several years and prefer them for all my applications. I get pretty good pricing at ryder fleet products online.

    As a side note also, Deka / East Penn makes all the Cat batteries. I have hauled those several times.

    Baldwin makes a great filter, as does Wix the very best setup is the Davco, absolutly no restriction, no changing the filter because you think it is bad, and you can go to 2 micron filtration. We had a guy buy the Davco filter set-up off a wreck for a 3406B he use to change the filter, every 18 months with a 10 micron filter he went to the 6 and even at 18 months was still good,
    When he spec'd out his new truck the first thing he did was get the Davco on it.

    Me too. I have had Davco on the last 4 trucks. I would never want to go back to spin on cans again. The Davco is so easy to change and you can see the level of the fuel so you do not change out a fuel filter early and waste money. On the flip side, if you get a load of fuel that chokes up the filter, you can see it early and change it out before you have performance problems going down the road. I always carry a little bit of fuel in a container in the rail box so I can change out my Davco anytime, anywhere. Of course, I have the Davco wrench also. That is almost a must, but one can do it without the wrench.

    Oh, and my Davco is heated with both 120v AC when engine block heater gets plugged in, or 12v DC when not plugged in. Thermostatically controlled. Considered the coolant heated version, but went with this one this time.
