No matter the school, the FIRST day you are there, they should go over all the paperwork to ensure everything is in order. This shows that this particular school is not doing the required job. Hopefully you will get trained in a way to prepare you to take your driver test.

this same thing happened to a guy in my class last month right before we were scheduled to go to the yard, i am learning these schools can be unprofessional in the way they handle students and it's one of the reasons they are called "mills" and i am assuming RoadMaster is a private truck driving school in FL like it is here in Cali

this problem at my private truck driving school had nothing to do with the carrier recruiter, i am assuming your "recruiter" is from a carrier and not the school's recruiter, the way i understand the pre-hire process is it is kind of meaningless when you are a still a student driver and it's only for the carrier's convenience so they have time to run their background checks on you and get a jump on their paperwork, the carrier really does not come into play for you as a driver until you are done with their orientation process and when you become their employee, right now you are still a student with a permit and not of use to the carrier yet so this sounds like it is all on the school, i believe the paperwork flows from the school to the trucking company, not the other direction and since you are not yet an employee of the trucking company you cannot depend on them to act on your behalf anyway

the day before we were getting out of the classroom and begin to train in the yard the teacher announced to the class (!) one of the students did not pass his physical and so he could not go to the yard with the rest of the class even though he already had his signed medical card in his wallet and he was certain he had passed his physical, needless to say it was incredibly embarrassing and confusing for him and everyone started chatting it up about him in class and assumed the worst of course even though this guy's health issues are none of anyone's business

i encouraged him to talk to an attorney for peace of mind but don't think there is a case here because there are no money damages he can collect so no attorney will likely take the case IMHO, the crux of the problem with these unprofessional schools, they just collect your money and then treat you any way they want often at your peril and if the truck school owner is equally ignorant and unprofessional as the teacher in this case then you are between a rock and a hard place until you can get that diploma and get the heck out of there

the way my fellow classmate explained it to me is he was a full-on former driver about 7 years ago who after a month on the job had failed a health-related trucking company requirement while employed OTR and was fired abruptly (had to leave his truck somewhere mid-route and take a bus ride home from out of state) and now he was trying to get back into the industry, he thinks it's the same problem this time--he tested with high blood sugar, so apparently the school had a right to keep him out of the yard but no right to make it public information and make this guy's life harder than it has to be so just be aware they can do this and it seems like it's part of their normal business practice so expect the school to treat you no better than if you were a gallon of milk

the school told him he had to go back to the doctor's office for another physical and the school postponed his yard training for a few weeks until he was "cleared" to drive, he is really angry with the way the school is handling his health issue by letting everyone else in class know all about it, others in our class are also angry with the school but for other reasons but there is nothing we can do about any of our complaints because even though we paid a lot of money for their services we are not "customers" of the school in the school's view, they act like we need them more than they need us and they are apparently untouchable legally so we have a "mill" situation that appears to be the model for truck driving schools everywhere

i would start by contacting the school and get it sorted out at that level, leave the carrier recruiter out of it because they really don't want to know how the sausage is made and they are kind of like the trucking schools in that they also have a wide range of negative issues they can create for you and you don't need more stress right now

just focus on what you need to do to get that CDL from that school sooner than later, try to remain professional even though others around you cannot which is good practice for when you become a professional driver, if you miss a day or two in the beginning at the yard at least in our case this is not a big deal because they did not let us drive in those first couple days anyway and we only went over more pre-trip which you can practice on your own anywhere, so don't sabotage yourself--try to remain positive and goal-oriented or your attitude may affect your ability to operate the equipment

OP, are you paying for school ouut of pocket or working on a prehire program where the company your prehired for foots the bill per your year long contract witht the company you signed? If you paid out of pocket yourself then they can't throw you unless something has determined you unfit but even with a bad record you can still go to school. As for a prehire year contract, if they find anything, then yes, they can send you home even from a outside 2nd party school. When I mean 2nd party school, meaning they are a school that works contracts with companies for prehires vs trucking company in house schooling which is 1st party.

Im paying for this out of pocket. When I say recruiter, Im speaking about the schools recruiter, not any particular carrier.

Ive had some time to cool down a little bit but the only thing Im worried about is graduating on time as the school promised. I have to have 160hrs of total training to graduate....So I dont know if there going to "jimmy" the hours or make me make up another 12 hours being that I missed today.

It just sucks knowing most of the people in my class moved on to on the road training today and Ill behind due to the schools error.

You have every right to be pissed. You did everything you were supposed to and they dropped the ball. Depending how far into the training you are I might even ask for a refund and go elsewhere.

they are maybe holding you back until you have dot from there doctor. if you had your own when you started they might not accept that dot. but lots of luck and dont take things to heart so much, you will have a lot more things that are going to bother more if you stay in trucking b safe

Maybe so but if that is indeed the case, the recruiter should have told him and not accepted his long form and med card he had before attending this school.Typical when it comes to this carreer.,drivers and students are the real victims.A whole lot of lack of communication in this profession.

I specificaly told the school recruiter when I applied and paid that I already had a medical form. The only thing she said she needed to verify was that I had the long form as well which I sent her an email and she responded to that day....

Im not one to worry about the little things in life but when someone starts screwing with me and Ive already paid 6,495.00 dollars, I kind of tend to take things like that to heart....wouldnt you?
