CoPilot Truck GPS Laptop System

Copilot Truck is the best thing out there for truckers BAR-NONE!! It is the ONLY one that caters specifically to the trucking industry....
The only thing I'd wish they would do is put it in a self contained GPS so I didn't have to put wear and tear on my laptop.

My old Garmin C330 has a 'truck' option on it but it doesn't do all the things that copilot does, though it was only $178 at Wally World and gets the job done.

I ALK (maker of Copilot) really needs to get a self contained unit on the market, I'd buy one in a second.

My opinion it is a great tool to have.

 

If you want a self contained Co Pilot without adding wear and tear on the laptop, all you need is a mobile phone with Windows Mobile on it.

I use a Palm Treo 700wx with Co Pilot loaded on a small 2gb card and it sits on my dash. You need to have a smartphone with a touch screen. Its cheaper than a laptop, you can use the phone for both calls/texting and internet access at broadband speed.

Works perfect.

 

Here is an update, I emailed the Copilot sales team at ALK.

In Q2 or Q3 of this year they will be releasing a self contained GPS version of Copilot truck. I was thinking of getting the PDA version and putting it on my cell phone but decided I didn't want to squint at the tiny screen and quite frankly I like my cell phone being just a cell phone.

So those without laptops and those that do not want to buy a PDA or use your cell...they are coming out with a unit that is awesome.

I'll try to attach the pdf file they sent me that has features and pictures of the unit.

 

That would be great to see if it is all it says it is.

 

That is exactly what I've been waiting for. Everyone I know uses co-pilot and I want to use it to but don't want to subject my laptop to that kind of punishment. Guess I'll just stick with my Garmon till that thing comes out.

 

Actually, it advertised that it does truck routing but I occasionally found it routing me down restricted routes or routes where low overheads were located. The truth is you can't trust it. In fact, there isn't any navigation sofware on the market that you can entirely trust. It is always best to check your routes to be on the safe side.

A couple of other things is the software is very buggy and the routing features are difficult to use and very limited.

I found Microsoft Streets & Trips for a small fraction of the price to be overall much better and easier to use.

 

Good to hear. I've been debating this issue with myself for the last few weeks. I want the software. But I really would like to leave the laptop put away.
