I have been a local driver for 18 years and may try over the road soon.
One thing I wonder is how much money to carry for the week. I was wondering how the tolls along the trip are paid?
I do not understand the whole comcheck deal. Does the company give you money up front for tolls etc with the com check or how does that work.
I know the route I travel now, NYS thruway and Newburgh Beacon bridge could get expensive if I was paying out of pocket.
How musc money do you carry?

Little as possible
Tolls are paid by you and reimbursed or by using things such as EZpass.
Comcheck you are giving a very long number that you take to a fuel desk.
They check your ID and ask you a few questions about your company and you can cash the check. -
I carry $160/week, and don't have to pay for Tolls. My company gives us Toll Cards to use for Ohio, and Indiana. Any other tolls are covered by EZ Pass.

I also yearn to see the country.

I will have the resources to do it if I sell my house and move south.

Thanks, -
Sorry to interrupt your post but I use to have a car like that. But mine was a 1970 GTX, orange, 440 with a pistol grip shifter. It was the coolest car I ever had. Sold it for 500 bucks cause I needed the money in the early 80s. Man I wish I woul have kept that car.

Had a 70 Six pack Challenger that I wish I still had and my last Road Runner was a Rare 72 with the Air Grabber hood and all original.
Sold it in 98 or so and when I look on Ebay and see the prices they are getting now it makes me sick -
With EZ-Pass, and credit cards for Indiana and Ohio, I don't spend much on work except for occasional bridges that aren't on the toll system, a weighing on scales when called for, and the occasional item I need for the truck. And all of those things get reimbursed. I typically will pick up about 150 per week for pocket money, and don't do that each week if I don't need it. I always have the credit card if I need it for something.
Paid a wrecker bill once after getting stuck, got paid back next week, bought fuel once because of a pump that wouldn't accept the fuel card, got it back as well.
It's funny, but it used to seem that each year, within the first 2-3 days of the year, I used to get sent to Philadelphia or somewhere, and it always seemed to be before I got my new toll card before EZ Pass. I always paid the tolls in cash and got it back in a few days.
